The only hemp things ive ever made have just been usual neckalces and bracelets. But I want to make a nice sized bag to wear on my back to hold all the shit im always carrying.

    something like this...

like those nylon gym sacks that strap over your back

now i have no idea how i would do this, does anyone have any suggestions on where to start. maybe a link to some techniques i can use, all i know is normal braiding.

you could try crocheting using hemp that would be my only idea.

In a book I have called Making Beautiful Hemp and Bead Jewelry by Mickey Baskett there is a project about a small bag called a Secret Keeper Necklace. It will take forever. Making a larger one will take a long time too. But it would be worth it. However it would have spaces where stuff could fall thru so you would have to line it with cloth or something. I agree with LittleRaisin-crocheting the hemp would give you a tight weave and easier to create a backpack or what-not.

There are a lot of bags that look like canvas bags, but are made out of hemp material. I've seen sites where you can buy yards of hemp material for cheap. But I guess you'd have to sew or something...

you could crochet it if the hemp is flexible enough. thats what i would do.crochet is awesome, and so easy once you get it down.

you can pm me about it if you want ;)
