ALrighty, hadn't been on here in a while. I have a white widow female under natural sunlight indoors. Its about 6 ", a little over a month old. I'm kind new at this whole thing. anyways, the lowest two leaves on (they were rounded and small) turned yellow and died, and now the next lowest have turned yellow and curled and are dying. I tried to look up the problem online and the only i found is it could possibly be pottasium. what? I'm supposed to give my plant a fucking banana? Could someone mail me " growing for Idiots" or just help me out on here? Much obliged the j man
Well the lil round ones (cotolydons) are suppossed to do that. They have the initial food until the real leaves take over. Fertilizers are listed as NPK - > K Potassium is in the fertilizer. What fertilizer are you using? How often do you fertilize? A pic would be worth a thousand words in this case.
Bill's right, without a pictures there's know way for us to help you. It's could be many things. Start out by telling us about your setup, soil, etc and what you've been feeding the plant. Have you been adjusting the pH of the soil? Think of it this way.... When you go to the doctor you go in and he looks at you, and asks you questions.... ya don't just call him up and say "Doc my stomach is hurting.... what's wrong?"
You shouldn't be fertilizing for AT LEAST a few more weeks. And then it should be very dilluted ferts... the plant doesn't need or want soil that hot... it will kill the little thing very fast.
Okay, (pics edited). As far as soil goes...just your average potting soil from wally world. as far as nutrients go..water. I was using just a tiny bit of similac mixed in every once in awhile but i was worried that was the problem so i stopped. the rounded leaves died first, and then there was a set of two pointed leaves that curled up and fell off. (notice pic #3, the bottom knot on the stem is the curled and the small knot between the first one and the bottom most set of leaves was where the pointed ones were.) I'm worried because notice pic #4 the most bottom leaves are lighter than the rest. any ideas? the foil isn't really for reflection, my cat keeps trying to get up near the plant (she pissed in my blueberry and i think that's why it died). as far as sunlight goes--it gets like 10-12 hours a day with a good solid 5 directly on it.
It doesn't look that bad. A bit pale but not bad. I am unfamiliar with similac but if it is a x/x/x fertilizer (N/P/K) you should be fine. It is better to underfertilize than over. You may want to consider a better nute depending on what similac. I never was a believer in window growing a good 65 W CFL would do wonders for it. The wee round leaves are meant to die and the plant will kill off the lower leaves that are not getting enough light.
Similac is powdered baby formula. You mix it up with water. When i did it i heavily diluted it so as not to be too strong. I just tried it cuz my weedman mixed it in with his plants and they were like twice as tall as mine but a week younger.
Haven't you ever seen "Little Shop of Horrors"? Pretty soon it'll be talking to you in a black man's voice saying it needs BLOOD, BABY!!!
Damn - dude stop it for now. That explains the yellowing. Get a decent fertilizer and prepare a weak ~ 1/4 strength soln. Do not fertilize every watering either.
Your best bet for now would be to give it a 1/4 strength nute solution. Let it grow abit prior to transplanting.
