Teeny boppers turning to thrift shops in lean times. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080417/ap_on_bi_ge/teen_recession&printer=1;_ylt=ApX6sXSGFiMM1G5AU64hlIpv24cA " It's even becoming cool to be frugal. Last week, Ellegirl.com, the teen offshoot of Elle magazine, launched a new video fixture called Self-Made Girl, which shows teens how to make clothes and accessories. The first video offers tips on how to create a prom clutch. "It's a little tacky in the economic unrest to tote a big logo bag," said Holly Siegel, the site's senior editor. She said it's no longer about teens "one-upping each other," but rather where they can get it cheap. " .
For the few remaining Bush supporters out there, If this isn’t evidence that The Great Depression is upon us, then I don’t know what is Hotwater
In some circles, it has always been cool to be thrifty. My friends and I used to try and outdo each other, trying to find bargains in charity shops. If a depression is what it takes to make the rest of the world realise, then so be it.
it has always been cool to be thrifty, just like people who are paid large amounts of money to discuss what is currently in fashion almost never have any clue about what is currently in fashion
dont hate on george bush you anti american peace of shit. he is our president and a good one at that. he has brought the economy up, started a war that is only doing good, and is a master of rhetoric
I remember when i was in high school, I got made fun of for shopping at thrift stores and making my own clothes. By my senior year, people would come up to be and say "Hey, Annie, guess where I got this..." I would pause and they would reply, "Goodwill". It annoyed the crap outta me...I got tortured for YEARS over it and suddenly it's "cool"? I must have been way ahead of my time.
I love thrift stores too. so many gems to find in those. my buddy found a pair of brand sunnies once, and paid $2.50 for them.
The few remaining supporters of that administration are making rationalizations about it now that are so fringe that they are on the verge of self-parody, much the same as Bush. .
It depends on who you're with really, middle class usually don't want to spend top dollar on something they can get for cheap while upper class people usually want to show their money... like people who drive tricked out hummers. I myself grew up relatively poor so I learned to be thrifty lol where as all the kids at my school had diamond studed shoes and I had the same ones as two years back (which I called nicely broken in lol) and got made fun of for it, I never really got why ...I mean they didn't have holes or anything so why waste money.
I like thrift stores because it's so green to reuse. Plus, saving money is good too. Even if you can afford to pay full price, why would you if you don't have to? Just to prove you have money (actually, I knew a guy like that)?
I've always either made my own clothes, or bought them cheap (I have tacky/ eclectic tastes) so I've never had the luxury of being 'thrifty', just me.
Well, I only have $10 bucks I borrowed from a friend to my name. We're buying ham, a can of black beans, and bread. Hope to make it to another day.
