I've wanted dreads for a very long time but never went through with getting them. I was originally going to use the products and methods from knottyboy but then I found this board and saw how much their methods could mess up your hair. I was wondering if my hair is too long to start dreads in or if I would have to do something specific if it is too long.

No way dude, your hair can never be too long to dread. The longer the better. And with your hair type you'll have mature dreads in probably a month. Good luck and Cheers

dude... you're gonna have kick ass locks in no time! just section 'em up, don't use any conditioner, and don't comb. twisting would probably actually work for you with your hair texture and type. good luck!!!

Thanks for all the help and advice. Yeah soaringeagle it does get real knotted over night if nothing is done to it.
p.s. Aside from sectioning it and not using conditioner are there and tips I really need to know?

Depends how you wanna do it. People put to much thought into it. Like you said, it wants to do it overnight, so just let it.

If you want to go natural, dont even section a lot, just wait a few weeks, then make sure it starts to section however you want them.

    Otherwise, twist the bitches up.

for u id use a non residue shampoo over the 1st few weeks just feel fotrr knots and separate knotted sections
just keep seperating them into individial dreads as they start to lock up..

Yes, rip apart ;) but do condition 'm once in a while, 'cause 'blackhair' is much dryer than straigh hair.
