sooooo totally! i've hated being all femme my entire life, and even though i love it in my woman partners, i can't stand to look all girly. but then the dreads... and i wear sexy clothes, i wear jeans that make me look all bootyliscious, and i love to wear a skirt now and again....

i think it's something about loving who you are and what you've got! i didn't take the time to read through every page on here, because i wanted to reply to this particular post... but yeah...

my dreads have helped me come to terms with myself. or i should say... are helping... it's an ongoing process... the process of life. i'm finding peace and patience, and parts of myself that i've hidden for a long time. as i get lazier about "taking care of my hair" i get lazier about hiding my true self. it's no wonder so many people are workaholics... they don't know how to relax and let things go the way nature intended. i'm learning. and that's all i could ask for!

Wonderful words spoken soaringeagle, I like it so much that I ask if I can quite this in my sig? Giving credit of corse.

As for how dreadlocks have affected me- Well, my journey has just begun a number of weeks ago and hardly anyone even knows I have started this journey. I keep them hidden and enjoy them myself at home. But I have felt at ease and relaxed more I'd say. Almost a constant reminder of patience.

Hi all, this is my first post in this forum, nie to see the dreadies are collaborting whereever possible ;). Anyways, I'm Tyler and I've been locked since march 2007 and all I can say is wow. I suppose when I was younger I held stipulations brought apon my via my parents and role models as a child. As I grew up the real-world became ever more present with my growing know of what was going on around me. I figured religion out for the scam it was (no offense to those who are religious, if that is what satisfies you, I am happy for you, religion does not have my answers.) Anyways, moving from a big city to the backwoods of TN, locking your hair isn't exactly what you would call a thing you'd see everyday, but amazing over time, even the oldest of the good 'ol boys have become curious and some have actually befriended me. Dreadlocks taught me to present the person in the mind, not the body, I think some one once said the body is the mind.. I agree with that... Anyways, ill post a few pics of my dreads but none more recent then 7months ago... will get more soon. Happy Posting

I see, is DreadHead to corporate for the hardcore hippies? I've never used anything byt the soap, perhaps all their other products are crap.. but once I switched of it I immediately noticed the difference, so if they are sell out so be it, their product speaks for itself IMHO. But, I'm not the agrumentative type so I won't mention them again ;) I've actually put nothing but hot water through mine for about 3 months now, and its fine, just a little heavy on the loose hairs.

    1. I'm not a hippy (far from it actually), just a dreadhead. It has nothing to do with how 'corporate' they are, it's the fact that they knowingly and purposefully ruin a large number of peoples locks. As a company that sells wax, I refuse to believe that they dont understand the harmful aspects of their product.
    2. Their soap gave me dandruff. Like, really bad.

well i cant say for theyre intentions however i had emailed them questioning theyre polocy of pushing dangerouse products like wax with no responce

its not so much theyre soap which is fine its putting out dangerouse info to sell other dangerouse products that i have an issue with..
plus the fact that they are partialy responcible for the belief that dreads are dirty

if u use just water dont your scalp get itchy? id recomend bronners or the deep cleanse at least..

I have used bars of bronners, I just prefer the dreadhead because of the "tighening" properties it gives my roots. I never used wax, although i started with the backcombing method to start my regular hair. Itchy Scalp? nah I oily skin to begin with (Italian backgrounds despite the red hair) but I like how dreads are a personal experience everyone takes them and nutures them a different way, I like seeing crazy nappy unkempt ones just as much as the "cleaned up" types. Everyone puts their own flava into themselvses!

    i agree with you.
i realy like the dhhq soap. you can deffinatly feel your dreads tighten after wash, and my hair feels 100% clean, smell free and un oily afterwards. and atleast ive never had any problems with dandruff from it.

btw whoever said that it gave em dandruff are you shure its cuz of the soap?
beacuse i had dandruff the first few weeks i had dreads the first time, and it started before i used the soap. then over the months i had less n less dandruff.
