found this posted on a phish site a little bit ago, its a site with a bunch of pittsburgh heads on it. i guess the site just started yesterday, but it already has a good amount of action. definately seems like a great idea. so check it out.

    "
"a new forum / blog dedicated to the pittsburgh (regional) jamband / livetronic / festival music scenes. we just kicked off today, so only a little action so far, but come check it out. we're here to spread the word about local bands, live music, and a place for fans to network.
    http://www.phlipp.com/uc

please remember we just started today, and we're starting from scratch there's no other places exactly like it, so we are slow still, but i promise we will take off, so stop by and say hi.

I dont think thay there will be much traffic on that, and it will turn from dead to hip hop in a week.. nice try though... Pittbugh pa sucks on the level of jam bands, Lots of stuck up mofos, that Id rather not share the same breath with, Sorry if I offend your intentions,
Maybe we could get Big ben to endorse us like the Poverty neck hillbillies... Who by the way were far from,,poverty... and Snobs..
I work a fulll time job. I work my finger to the bone to put together a underground Floyd cover band, my freind Dave and I had full back stage access to Austrailan Pink Floyd. At the Benudum on Dec 7 2007..
We have invested not money so much as to our Time..in this vision.
Dave Is a drummer and got his drum kit from Floyd Sneed drummer for 3 dog night..like 20 years ago...
this city has nothing classic to offer. Joe Grosheckie and the House cockers..
and aternitive music is the scene.. Goth is in control of the south side...
There is no culture center devoted to 60, 70 era music,,
Electric Bannana, was cool. And the Decade, and another one thats on that I cant think of.
But I do know this: "If you play it they will come"..
Problem is. all the fucking tax shit... You want to organize a good festie and locate it where? Then all the issues come up..
Weve found that the Blues festival in Carneige in the fall is the only place to jam, organizers of these event have the right thing in mind Community.. Each community has a different feel. and Another was a West End overlook festival,, that was run by the community, not City planners.. If Hippy/ Rhythm music is to have any feel in the Burg, it has to be in the heart of the people it reaches..
There are no social centers that put on cultural things that involve music.. And if there is its not reaching inner city kids who can benifite from music, Free teachers of culture in this area are needed so that we can all live in peace..
I left the burg and moved futher north due to drug ridden communities, But I work full time downtown, and I am involved in community programs in the city of Pittsburgh because thats what being a hippy is.. peace..

its not my site but i will defend. as far as not getting much traffic, its already got 30 members in less than a day, and its only been posted here, 2 phish boards, and craigslist (not bad for a distinct scene in a small city). pittsburgh has a great jamband scene, not really sure what your talking about, we have dozens of bands here, quite a bit of local concerts as well as several national performers weekly, and more jamband related festvals within a 2 hour radius than any other city in the US. each summer we have many free festivals with local performers as well as regional and national performers, and who can forget the awesome drum circles and open jam sessions. it seems like the only people who complain about the jam scene here are people not involved in it, this is one of the coolest scenes in the country in which primarily all of the bands get along. saying that alternative, and goth run this city, and that hip hop will take over that board in a week no doubt just shows your ignorance to this great scene. it seems like you just wanted to fluff your own life while putting down an entire scene, instead of letting people just stop by and make a decision for themselves.

so again i would like to invite you over there to check out whats really going on, and i would like to invite you to a show or festival, so you can see what a good scene is like, and maybe you will realize that ignorance isn't bliss.

Nothing wrong with fluff my freind, But you Obviously missed my point, And I dont have hours to waste on putting that point up..

As for calling me ignorant. I take offence to that..Since You must be New or something to the scene.. If you think Fungus is a Great Band then you need your head examined at Western syche.

If your talking about a festival devoted to the Music an not For BEER sales then Im in your alley..

I was also Intended to Post my opinion on a Community Level.... Not One Just a Hippy Culture Scene..

Letting out to much information will reveal my idenity.. maybe you dont have Identity issues. And are just happy theres a place for you to get stoned at and listen to music
    Its called the strip district...
As for myself being in this City for 38 years, Theres nothing your going to tell me thats
new in the music scene. Since Im a Proffesional musician and have worked Pittsburgh
for the last 20 some years, Good luck to you.
Yeah Im Ignornant.. Cause nobody really plays for free,, and When you do they Laugh at you.....
So tell me something Like a Community festival that you have helped organize.
    Besides posting your spam....
As for not being invovled... Im more involved than you.. poster with 32 post...
Idiot... If you only knew the Musician I know. And when your done following them around. Maybe youll be a Leader someday....
But at least your making a effort...

now if were done flaming eachother....

You just Keep on dreaming while Im "Playing in the Band"....

    "Your
Quote":each summer we have many free festivals with local performers as well as regional and national performers..
No shit. "Carnegie Blues Festival" of which I mentioned. of which Is proly the only true community run fesival in your two mile radius. And I take part in it ever year..
If I got anymore involved in this petty shit.. I wouldnt have a real life and a real Job.. With real music gear and not be of any use to anyone...
Kill the corporate sponsor dead ends and youll have a good community festival..
Arts Festival is in June.. What are you organizing?

Geeeeez you do go on, the bands here in general are not that great, we did have alot of free outdoor concerts back in the 60s, nothing great, I went to Churchill High school and we had many concerts, and the blues festival is always cool, we are organizing RAIN for the arts festival would not be the same without it.

    Peace

I never was much of one to hang around the city, northside, southside, the Hill, not my cup of tea ( if you will ) I,m a suburbanite, Churchill area, and avoid the city proper as much as I can, but some of the southside is cool. I was at Marti Gras in 1974, it was fun, to many cops though.

    1. ive been involved in this scene for a very long time, and if you have as well. then guess what. im sure we know each other in real life.

    2. fungus? thats your example of a pittsburgh jamband? a grateful dead cover band, that hasn't really been active in the scene for 10 years?

    3. strip district? again strip district has been dead for 5 years, and FYI: i dont get stoned, nor do i even drink friend.

    4. ive been involved in throwing free and low cost events since the mid 90's, how bout yourself?

    5. poster with 32 posts? god, what does that have to do with anything? poster from march of 08.

    6. what is your problem man? i came here posted about a site for fans of a certain type of music, and for local bands to get together, you in turn flip out. if assuming your telling the truth about yourself, if thats how life turns out, flaming a message board because someone is interested in networking a local scene, then man count me out.

    7. what events are you throwing bro? i'd like to come to one, my next one i'll be sure to invite you. and again there are many free jamband (and others) oriented music events here every year.

    8. their making no money from this, no one is. the point is to keep ppl informed about local and national bands and festivls in and around our city, i don't understand the problem you have with this?

    9. spam? ive been coming here for months, i found out about a site i thought was a great idea and i posted about it for others to check out too, and again you flipped out because of this?

    10. i got no problem with you, but you obviously do with me, and for what? i have no idea.

hard rock cafe does occasionally have some shows there, its very expensive to use though thats why theres not more. most of the bands that play there have contract with hard rock and are brought in by them corporate. as for point state, theres just arts fest in that area, but their is talk of having anothers arts festival there later in the season with corporate sponsors, which in turn would be free, still up in the air though.

goes show Im not familure with some areas, I dont know where Churchhill is.. Is that out towards South Park aways?> dont feel like cheating and googgling it, Id rather honestly ask you..

Was down in the N.O. about 4 months after The special K express went thru.
My women got family on the French Quarter and elsewhere in N.O. It was Hell down there. but it was real. We're planning to go to Mississippi soon, since her sister lives there now.. Might stop in Nashville Ky. dont know?

    Vieux Carre Commission
Nineteen thirty-six marked the onset of regulatory controls in the form of the state-sanctioned Vieux Carré Commission. Residents dug in to preserve the quaint and distinctive character of the old Quarter as art galleries and antique stores sprouted on Royal Street and brassy Dixieland-style jazz flourished in Bourbon Street nightclubs and strip joints. By 1960, with traditional jazz in decline, Preservation Hall emerged to serve beleaguered musicians. Here Sweet Emma Barrett and other traditional and largely African-American musicians found appreciative and sober audiences. Today, these and other preservation battles are the order of the day as increasing pressure from a tourist-driven economy lures some 10 million visitors annually to the time and foot-worn streets of the Vieux Carré.

The Churchill area is made up of Forest Hills, Chalfont, and Churchill it self, take the parkway east and get off at the Wilkinsburgh exit and head toward Greensburgh on route 30, go past channal 4, when 30 turns into the Ardmore Blvd. you are in Forest Hills and it is all good from there, a bit snooty this area but I call it home. I was in Boluxie in Mississippi for 6mos, Is that how to spell it I mean Boluxie, not sure, very hot there.

    Peace

MEPHIME.. how do you figure I have a problem with you.. Have you gone Mad? Lol..
I was mearly stating the obvious.
there isnt any real scene here thats what Im saying...but the idea is to keep trying..
At one point you go for a festival inside the city your dealing with criminal activities.. And certain neighborhoods just cant handle that type of shit..
If you watch the news you know what neighborhoods I talking about.
You put a million dollar into the Point lets use it... its a Park inside the town..
whos getting troubled by noise levels nobody, by foot traffic nobody? ... Fucking planners want their pockets feed first.. and money up front for anything is impossable.

Why mountain festivals go over so well open areas and freedom.... Fine Festivals on the overlooks.. How do you direct traffic.. handle problems unforseen..
Be an electrician for the fucking festival and play in the band also.. set up and tear downs.. fold chairs and pack up lights... keep track of all hardware..
and not break anything... stay sober enough to enjoy it yourself....
WHo do you think your talking too here Brintney Spear...lol..

Just kidding man... *I love you for efforts*.... Try hard and once in a while youll show others the light in the strangest of places if they look at it right....
