I have 14 grandkids.. 12 are female.. my sisters( no brothers) have two girls one boy 8 female grandchildren 2 male.. my neice on other side has three females no males, my mother in law is the eldest of 7 sisters and one brother. My grandmother had 4 females and 3 males.. My daughter had 2 females, my son had a female, My husband had 3 girls 2 boys, My nephew has two girls no boys. My friend has 4 girls, my hubbys nephew has 1 boy and 4 girls. that is just a few examples that I KNOW as TRUTH. Shall I go on.

Even in the site you posted, it says it can't be accurate bc of children not registered and the females that are killed at birth bc they are girls in third world countries.

They're saying there are 1.05 men for every 1 woman. You are saying there are 0.2 men for every woman, and citing, of all things, selective abortion of females as evidence as to why there would be more women than men.

So yes, quite frankly, I will LOL all I want! You don't need to "go on" with your anecdotal evidence, because quite frankly, the facts don't give a shit. Anecdotal evidence with a sample of 1 is basically useless, and that's not just the cold rationalist in me; I could get a hell of a lot of anecdotal evidence from people who think you're completely and utterly wrong, and they would outnumber you, so... well, that's it, basically.

More to the point though, you've really done nothing for your gender. If an argument that should be impossible to lose against one of the most knuckleheaded neanderthal chauvinist retards I've yet encountered, you're trotting out bullshit like this? anecdote.. ahh.. isn't that where REAL life happens and not an opinion of someones..funny how some words make things sound so sophyticated, yet lacking realness in the process.. The only point I am contesting is your assertion that women outnumber men 5 to 1. You could be Emily fucking Pankhurst herself, and it wouldn't make a jot of difference. No matter how many times you insist, and how much irrelevant detail you cite, you are wrong about it. I am not oppressing you by saying this. Show me any factual evidence that you're not wrong about the sex ratio.

Or, alternatively, whitter on about how much your gender has been oppressed by mine, as if that absolves you of having to make any kind of sense at any point.

My point was that anecdotal evidence doesn't really prove anything. Statistically, immigrants are less likely to commit crime than US citizens, but many will cite the occasional incident where an immigrant committed a crime, as if this disproves the statistic. It doesn't. For the same reason, the fact that your family is female-dominated does not prove that the whole world is.

I'm not trying to sound "sophyticated", but I fail to see how statistics "lack in realness" simply because you happen to have decided that they're wrong and found some sliver of evidence which you think proves it. If women actually outnumbered men to the extent that you're suggesting, it would be a lot more obvious.

 

There is no point in using bandwith for a usless argument.. I base my evidence on what I SEE not what I hear and may or may not be accurate..as it stated in the url that was posted.. when it says plainly it is not accurate then I tend to use my own judgement.. if I am wrong.. it makes no difference in the price of gas.

no worries, SH, he's oppressed, too. we're all oppressed in some way. what it comes down to in an internet argument is nothing more than discussion. the real life experiences people have every day aren't the penultimate evidence. numbers are dry, people are not. what you and i have experienced (with a little grey area in the numbers, i confess) are valid and meaningful. what others experience are equally valid and meaningful. i adore a good flame fest with the whole quoting thing going on. that's fun. but your life outside of a forum with lively arguments is equally as convincing that people sometimes just have to get along whether they like it or not.

 

All I am saying is that the fact it admits to potential inaccuracy does not give you carte blanche to re-write the stats any way you like. As they have described it, the statistics would imply a slightly higher female birth rate than is suggested by the 21:20 ratio. But since they are dead, they would jar with your anecdote. I don't want to invalidate your experiences, but the fact that you come from a mostly female family doesn't prove much; my family is slightly more male in terms of numbers, but I wouldn't claim that there was a 7:6 male:female ratio just because, in my tiny sample, that happens to be the case. Anecdotal evidence is flawed simply because it is so dependent on perception, and we tend to see what we want to see to the exclusion of what we don't.

At the risk of sounding patronising, it seems way more important for you to "win" than to be right here. I guess that's what oppression does; you'll be grateful of any little victory, whether you've earned it or not.

 

Oooh, interesting thing I just heard: the diet of the mother affects the gender of children, apparently. Parents with higher amounts of salt and potassium in their diet are more likely to have male children.

I understand that you Think I just want to win.. but you see, if there is someone winning there is someone losing, Like I said before.. I don't play games. When I siad that the ratio was 5 to 1 these are facts I got yrs ago. perhaps somewhat outdated.

But, as I look around, I see more women then men.. so my mind tells me that there are more women then men still!! Maybe I'm not accurate but neither are they, so I will go with my gut feeling. I live in my world, you live in yours.

I stooped caring about what ppl thought of me 45 yrs ago. When I believe in something I stick to it, I am loyal to myself. It may not work for you, but it works for me.

But, to take a thread out of context to harp on a single statement and make it into the subject is not cool.. I am part of the problem here as I was the one that made the statement.

I am a simple woman with simple words. I am not formally educated and I prefere it like that. I don't have all the clutter in my head as you do. I get my imformation through a different channel. You can believe man and their twisted versions of life as they would like it to be.. but I make things happen in my world without their approval.

I am not biased against men, My man is my world. I have never met one like him before, he is 'manifacent'. I just don't care for jackasses. Ever see the movie jackass.. well there ya have male metality. It's all about shoving things up their ass and tieing things to their penis. Wierd, No?

As I stated previously, my man is my world.. I wait on him hand and foot not because he's a man, but bc he is a man that deserve it. He waits on me also, hand n foot. It's a Partnership.. one NOT over the other, but equaily suited. That is how I precive man and women. In most instances it is not so.. but in mine it is.

I've been married 4 times, had several bfs inbetween. I hadda kiss alotta frogs to find my prince. I use to be a wine tester.. sorta on the same thing.. you try a few till you find the flavor that suits you and you trash the rest. If all men were like my hubby, there would be no war. I think all men should take lessons from Lynn. I would die for him and I live for him. He loves me for who I am, he sees me in my true self, like no one else.

I think that men are great, with out the macho bs, or the need to be supream.

Maybe your lifestyle has changed. If I went by my old workplace, there were a lot more women there. But I knew that it was unrepresentative.

Funnily enough, a lot of people of your sort of age seem to get that. They decide at a certain point that they know everything, and tend to find people my age really obnoxious because we still believe in facts and don't just assume that any information is useless just because - shock horror - it might be biased. All information is biased, which is why you should check multiple sources, rather than just give up on any sources.

Tell it to science. I'm not exactly filled with confidence by your previous statements.

Thing is, if you get all your information from one source, be it your imagination or whatever, how do you know that I'm wrong? You have no way of corroborating it.

Sorry, but you clearly are biased against men, if you dismiss an information source purely because (apparently) statistics are all written by men!

There is bias and discrimination of both sexes. In my family women far out numbered the men. Our family reunions most resembled a female sorority get together. It was understandable that a feminine point of view was taught along side the masculine. It doesn't change the dynamic of a male dominated society. What changed was how we raised our children to work to make it equal for everyone. Brothers respect your sisters, teach your daughters to stand up for whats right and stand beside them when they do. Stop fighting against one another because our genders are different, fight along side one another to make our genders equal. I thought a basic tenant of the movement was equality.

 

i came from a very masculine family. way more men that women. we all ended up pretty tough and cranky. but at least we're equal about it.

 

i'll be fully, completely honest. the macho guy thing melts me absolutely. i married a marlboro man. an oil field cowboy. i grew up in southern california where men are frequently girlier than their women. amazing thing. i just love a good fight.
