    YES! I love Anton Chekhov.

What have you read by him?

My personal favourite is the short story, "Sleepyhead".

    You should read it.

Read "The Bet." It is an interesting study of the way people act and what they value.

i have read alot but my fave is probably "The seagull".
I think that chekhov was sort of showing the russian aristocracy as a decaying class, like people losing money and their titles and having to economise. i love the way that in every ive read their is an old sort of butler and an old nanny who has stayed with the family even when the children have grown up and had their own families.

i was assistant director and held down a couple small roles in a series of his short plays when i was in high school. it was so much fun, and some of his pieces (at least the ones i was familiar with through the plays) were hilarious. i haven't read any of his work in a while, but i really dug it at the time.
