Is there anything I can do/take before I smoke to avoid a panic attack?

Um.. Why do you get a panic attack in the first place?

If it messed you up that bad-(I have known people who got paranoid enough to have panic attacks) ...you weren't meant to smoke it.
    So don't.

If you have, or can get, a prescription for an anit-anxiety med, take that. Otherwise, I would advise you to just take one hit, and see how you feel. Vaping seems to help, maybe because it's almost pure THC with less of the plant's toxins to mess you up.

Outdoor-grown, (usually) imported stuff rarely caused panic or anxiety, even the strong types of weed. Unfortuately, that era is over.

    Good luck.

Sativa strains are more likely to cause panic attacks, while indicas are more mellow. Unfortunately, unless you grow it yourself, you have to take what you can get.

Weed-induced panic and anxiety attacks rarely happened in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I have a theory that it's due to the super jacked-up strains of today, because they've been crossbred too much. I usually enjoy whatever I can get, but do so with care.

I'd give my eye-teeth to know a dealer with predominantly indica strains. I even liked some of the skunk of the 1990's - but that's no longer available in my area. Hash, which is usually made from indica cannabis, is also nearly impossible to get. I can't imagine anybody having an anxiety attack from Tibetan or Nepalese black hash, lol. You'd be too stoned! I'd love to try vaping hash, but there's usually no hash available unless you make it yourself, or know someone who does.

the panic attack might come from an inability to relax, or something other issue you have. I strongly doubt it's the weed. smoke it, and try not to worry about anything. and make sure you smoke a joint, not a bong or such.

It's our inability to let go of the ego (or whatever you wanna call it) that freaks us out.
I stopped smoking, (unless supported by something else which holds back the paranoia) for similar reasons many years ago.
Lately, I've been thinking that a journey back to the land of reality might be what I need. Mind you, my chemical is of the psychedelic variety. At 55 I wonder whether I've been so brainwashed, conditioned and filled with cynicism that I may not find my true self again. Could just end up a real bummer although life is pretty cool from a material point of view. BUT I know I must go there again, the world I see before me is so f**ked up I believe a breath of reality is a must and I so miss that place that we so easily forget once we're back in hell.

    Hey,

Dude, I'll tell you this. If you're like me - and pot ever makes you paranoid, it will always make you paranoid. I smoked pot for a year before it turned on me. That was 18 years ago. I still avoid it today. The only thing I can do to avoid the panic is to drink like 7 beers (only drink if you're over 21) before smoking - and fall asleep within the hour.

The people that tell you things like "just relax", or "try not to panic" don't have any idea about the situation - or are way more under control than imaginable. I'm a high stress kind of person - very logical, so I'm always over-thinking things. I dunno if that's part of the problem. It must be.

It may just not agree with you. If that's the case, stay away from it altogether, except on extra special occasions.

    Good luck!

yes. You can fight off the panic for a while, but eventually it returns. I personally found that pot made my stomach feel the same way as when I was panicked. So my mind panicked. I chose to quit, but if this is similar to your situation, maybe my observation will help you understand.
