My class has been assigned to make a speech about anything. I chose the legalization of cannabis. I'll of course be talking about how much it COULD help out America financially and how it used to be grown by practically everyone. Then I speak about how it is medically beneficial. Then why its WRONG for them to make it illegal anyways. But what order should all of this be in? I have to make an outline for the speech itself. I think I may start off with talking about how many people respected the plant and used it before it was illegal, then I may move on to the benefits it could have, then why its wrong... but am not sure if I should go in a different order or not. Any suggestions?
You should start with a brief history of marijuana, how it was discovered and how it was first used in America. Then talk about the downfall of marijuana and then talk about how it should be legalized and all the benifits of it.
...Why? Yuor just gonna put so much heat on yourself. Sure it's cool to talk about weed with your friends and shit, but teachers don't ususally take kind to it. I try to keep my smoking and dealing as low key as possible to the teachers. Even though the kids are dumb and will yell "Yo Ian you got a spliff!!" Down the hall lol.
You should start off with a reason why it should be legal, and follow that up with a way it could be beneficial to citizens. Start with your problem, and then follow it up with your solution. And your teachers will be VERY critical of all your reasoning unless they are very very cool. You will also be on the close watch list from now on.
I wrote a great paper on it in a class made a 98. But im in college. I talked all about how it was unconstiutional and against what the founding fathers had in mind for America.
Here's the backround on my class. My old teacher got fired a few weeks ago for taking pictures up girls skirts(laughable, but disgusting) We got a new teacher and he's a big loser and the class kind of walks all over him. He's also an assistant pastor at a small baptist church in town. It's a private, Christian school, and he knows I'm not christian and I've beat him at every single arguement over religion. He knows I can win any arguement I start. And I AM doing this specifically to piss people off. TThere's only SEVEN people in my class, so its already a blow-off thing. I just want to make sure I blow him away with the speech. And then I'll handle everyone elses arguements during the Questions part at the end. I'm prepared. None of them are smart enough to beat me either. I know what I'm getting in to. I'm not worried.

chronologically. i don't know why everyone wants to do these speeches/ essays. it singles you out, plus the added benefit of breaking through the lies. you cant change the opinions of your teachers/ classmates, if you can you can go join NORML . but yeah, chronologically has always been my failsafe order.
I understand where you're coming from^^ But I'm not doing this to change anyone's point of veiw. I just want to piss people off when they see that they atleast can't BEAT me in an arguement about this stuff. Plus, I honestly know so many facts, and specifics of marijuana, that I have to do absolutely no research... which was a main reason why I chose this as well. It could be on anything, and I know this best. I don't think its pathetic, although it may come off that way. I just used to spend lots of time arguing with people. We have drug dogs come twice a month. The very small number of tokers at the school park down the street in a neighborhood when they see the people's trucks outside those mornings. I am smart enough (or atleast don't have the balls) to ever keep anything in my car that they look for)
I did the same thing like 3 weeks ago. Like imaginepeace said, though, it can be very different in college, and it seems like it would be given your situation. The problem I ran into when I was writing mine was that it's obviously a VERY broad topic. How long will your speech be? That'll be a big factor. Mine was 5-6 minutes and I focused on debunking myths about why it's bad for you (mostly health with a small dose of society). I would strongly advise you to narrow it down a bit. If you try to cover everything the whole speech will come accross as shallow and uncoordinated. The whole thing is an arguement that's impossible to lose if you know your stuff, and apparently you do, so how you put it together is what really matters.
I feel you. I'm basically going to refer to how important it used to be in this country, then, act as if I see the question in their mind, and tell them how they actually got it banned in the first place... which was refer to it, not as cannabis, but as a new name of marijuana. Then I'll go to how important it is medicinally, speaking of the ways it helps. I think I'll use the main point, that its used for people on other medications that have nno appetite. You can't deny that it doesn't help with that, even if you don't support it. But when people say just using it for pain, they just talk about taking other meds, and they don't understand the bad side-effects of those, and refuse to accept them, since they are legal, so they automatically assume there is a PERFECTLY logical reason why those are allowed, which I am not particularly sure that there is. then I'll go to why its wrong, and how it should be our right, I wouldn't go to that first, because they'll be too pessimistic and just thinking i'm ranting. My overall plan, is to open them up with the fact that it HAS been accepted at some point as beneficial, then showing that those people were somewhat cheated out of it, and made to think it was wrong, then, show them how it can be good now. Then, after I have them as opened up as I can, I'll go in with why I believe its wrong. I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse here.
take it from a former speech and debate nerd...teachers hate all the trite subjects...you wanna stir some shit, advocate the use of psychedelics in therapy...they've all heard all the great pro-pot speeches
Good call. But at 16, alot of it is still over my head. I haven't taken MUCH part in psychedelics, but I do believe that they are much more important than marijuana in living and learning. But it would be fun, since there are actually alot of things they could come back with.
or play devils advocate...give a speech about why marijuana should always remain illegal....a good speaker can give a great speech about a passionate subject; a truly great speaker can give a heartfelt speech about something that is truly opposite of their feelings

For my final speech in my speech class in high school i did legalization of marijuana.. i did a shit ton of research and got both sides of the argument.. my teach absolutely loved it.. i got an A
