Hey guys, I have a problem with my scalp that I would like a second opinion on if possible. I wash my hair with the KB bar usually in the once a week range and when my scalp gets wet I can take my fingernail and scrape the scalp mildy and i get this white gummy stuff (pardon the description) off my scalp and up until this point I've figured it is dry skin. It doesn't seem to happen all over my scalp and doesn't seem to always happen. Obviously when things dry we can get quiet flakey. A bit of a background check. I backcombed about 4 weeks ago, no wax, rubberbands or anything like that I simply opted for the training wheel method. I do get mild psorisis on my scalp from time to time but this does not appear to be the case here. The problem I am having now did occur from time to time pre-backcomb. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced said problem and what it may be. I'm beginning to wonder if I am just not rinsing sufficiently enough despite my best effort when washing.
Honestly, I personally don't think you have anything to worry about...it's probably just your scalp adjusting to the major changes. My scalp had a similar issue in the first month or two...and it was nothing, it went away. If it continues for too much longer, then go see a doctor, but really, in the meantime, I probably wouldn't worry too much... but I could be entirely wrong.
I often get the same thing and i don't even have dreads yet, you might want to try using a different shampoo, rinsing as thoroughly as possible, or even using a higher pressure shower head (I'd kill to get a extendable shower-head with some decent pressure on it) but I'd suggest giving all of those things a go before you go running to a dermatologist. Cheers, Peachy
I know exactly what you're talking about, I get the same thing and I also have no clue what it is. I just kinda figured it was dry skin, or dandruff.
Im about 5 weeks into my dreads also, no wax. Ive herd so many things about the KB products I wouldent dare risk using them myself. I dont think u need a doctor tho. I think if we all scratched our scalp wed find some white gunk under our nails, with or without dreads. Before my dreads i used only Dr.Bonners (various scents) on my hair to prepare my self for the routine of dreads. But after a few weeks if I scratched, i got flakey. For me, all I did was switch to the bonners tea tree liquid soap w/water, I add a little xtra tea tree oil and soak, rinse. I make sure to really rub my scalp around each dread while soaking. I also learned that using a object (pencil eraser or end of a crochet hook) to ~rub~ rather then ~scratch~ helps
thats just dandruff, its really nothing to worry about, what you need to do is use tea tree soap (like doctor bronners) or tea tree shampoo. Make sure when you wash your hair that your scrub your scalp really well, spend a little more time doing it. Ive had this same thing all my life, and my sister is a hair stylist or whatever, and shes done my hair most of my life. And dopeamine, theres no need to be an asshole here, this forums is for asking questions.
