Write about a guy having a nervous breakdown after spending most of his money on rubbish prostitutes and an over-priced ironic mullet.

when you write, you need to just start writing w/o looking back at what you have written.
when you do that you might have the urge to erase things and edit.
you gotta be comfortable in your evironment. music or no music, candles or incense or none at all, you choose your environment.
have a good writing tool that won't distract you while you write.
pick your favorite notebook (or whatever) and use that as your writing pad. take it with you where ever you go.
write down every thought that comes to your mind if you have to. ( i love doing that, then when i re-read it all, it sounds like ME)
take your time and just enjoy it.
just pick a topic and explore with it. and there's some tips for ya

I'll say again what I always have: don't start the beginning. Write the bits you want to write, then fill in the gaps. Edit all you want, but get something down first.

I only get small spirts of inspiration. Like, I recently wrote a short story (rather depressing) during two consecutive classes. hehe....Forgot all about school work and just wrote.
I let world_of_dan read it. He said it was bad....well written, but bad.

I don't think I will be writing again, for a long while.

I generally find I can write ok but can't get a subject that I'm happy with for any length of time. So if he says something's well-written but bad, don't despair, you've at least got the talent. and what does that little coccyx know anyway?

well, I wrote it as therapy. I would like other feedback on it besides Dan. He's definitely not a writer....but don't comment on how it ends....I've always been fond of Chekhov and Plath, and my writing reflects thta just a bit....
    wanna read it?

If all else fails, raid your MSN saved conversations. You always come up with the best lines when you're pissed at 4am taking the piss out of one of those really close friends that it's ok to take the piss out of because you're so close.

See, I keep getting recommended to Bukowski, but never by people who I actually respect. Is he as good as Burroughs?

No need to diss Burroughs, do you think I'd like the guy if I had a problem with writing. You couldn't write something like "The Soft Machine" sober, you just wouldn't.

Bukowski always seems to be quoted by people who have Controversial Opinions and A Unique Perspective On Life. These people tend to be interminably dull in conversation. But I'll keep my mind open. I've been recommended to Post Office, is that any good? Anything you'd recommend more highly as an entry point?
