so i really want to start the dreading process. i'm pretty sure i will at least back comb to get them started, because i feel like if i don't and just let them go i will go crazy and just brush my hair out. i have a few questions, i've been doing a lot of research and have come to find two major factions in dreading culture: natural and waxing. i'm looking for an honest answer from the natural people, since this forum is dominated by them: are there ANY pros to using wax? also i'm kind of all about the hygiene (which might be paradoxical in my quest for dreads). i realize waxing can be gross, but if i choose to do it naturally, how clean can i keep my hair?
Well ... I been on forums awhile and I knew better then to wax (ty hipsters). I see no logical benefit of it and besides that it just makes no sence to do it. If your worried about hygiene then don't wax, wax is like a magnet. You can find 100 horror story's on wax here. I did back comb, mainly because I have poker strait hair to begin with and it hardly takes a curling iron. "also i'm kind of all about the hygiene (which might be paradoxical in my quest for dreads)" = Sterotype. I wash my hair alot more now then I did before dreads Dig around the forums, your instincts well tell u what u need to do. Good luck =D
cool thanks for your help. how is washing your hair different than before now that you have dreads? if you use bar soap to you rub it into your dreads or do you just do your scalp and try to keep them dry?
Well before it was shampoo, condition, rinse. Now its just shampoo rinse. I don't think anyone would recommend really working soap into the dread. Personally I just fill my tub 1/2 way and add Bonner's liquid right to that then soak. Every few days I make sure I scrub my scalp well around each dread.
