when it comes to marijuana.. im not just talking about the police... people in the town also... cab drivers... everyday people.. teachers.. doctors... how are their overall views twords marijuana? Where i live is definitely a college town.. 27,000+ pop.... we have three colleges.. 1 public.. 1 private and a tech college.. overall.. people dont seem to mind.. and cops never have hasselled me personally.. there are tons of places to smoke in public.. we have 3 disc golf courses, if that don't scream WE LOVE HIPPIES/STONERS i dunno what does, the town has bluff on one side and the mississippi on the other.. lots of trails to smoke out at in the bluffs and plenty of others doin the same.. same with the river.. i have smoked with quite a few random fishermen in my times as well. downtown is a bar cluster fuck.. bars everywhere.. what do you expect.. college town.. most the bars are "meat markets".. just stupid college kids lookin to get laid and tons of girls all made up just playin games all night with their friends.. up until last nov you could get away with puffing in any bar.. i puffed up in every one i was ever in.. but now with the no smoking ban.. ya cant realy get away with it... gotta step outside to smoke now.. and well still no one pays any attention.. just someone gettin high thats all... even one of the cab companies doesnt mind blazing in their cabs.. have smoked with tons of cabbies... actually one cabbie slammed on his breaks once cuz i lit a smoke and hes like "put that out!" so i was like "uh.. ok" and he was goin off about how cabs are "public" so you cant smoke in them either.. and i go to him "well.. if i cant smoke this cig.. ya mind if i spark a bowl?" and hes like "go for it.. the fine is lesser than a cigarette ticket" haha.. fucked up, huh?
hmmm. let's see.... to start with, the general reaction of ppl when we're smoking in public can be: (listed as most commonly occuring) 1. complete surprise. as if they've only seen it on tv, or read about it in books. they'll go all wide eyed, and whisper with the person next to them. point, and talk. it's can be either really funny, or a buzzkill. 2. nothing / slight approval. ppl who know whats what, give you that nod. you know, that nod you give to strangers when the both of you guys know what's up. hard to explain. girls that i know, sometimes call it the "bad boy nod" 3. the x factor. random. doesn't happen often. but this can range from confusion, to disgust, to wanting some. i live in toronto, ontario. (canada) eh? lol. honestly i think i do say 'eh' a lot. but anyway, there are lots of parks, and trees and shit but sometimes it does feel like a concrete jungle. esp downtown. people are different depending on what section of the city you're in. either posh and stuckup, ghetto, normal/nice/zombie like, trendy hipsters, artsy fartsy, etc... but over all ppl dont' really seem to care much about smokin' a joint on the street. i think the only times i've been told not to was......once me and a friend were smokin' during school in a patch of trees off a well used trail. a schoolgroup of kids came by and some kinds found us. they told their teacher, and the teacher yelled at us. OR, once i was caught smokin' at a government run park. good thing is i worked there. hahaha. they just said put it away, i dont' wanna see it again. and gave me the nod. (yup) so from what i've experienced, not much resistence to smoking in public. and we are not shy about it. i/we smoke anywhere. the one thing i have to worry about though, is cops on bikes. let me tell you, if i'm gonna go down, i can see this as being the way. *knock on wood* they are silent, fast, and showup anywhere. so many times i've either just finished smoking or was just about to, and a cop zipped past me on a bike. i didn't even know it was a cop until he was like 20-30 feet past. =\ my friends and i have trained ourselves to look for them, although i still think it's impossible. cops on horses are cool though. i'll even go up to them stoned just to see the horse. other than that....what can i say? it's very multicultural, you've got china town, little italy, korea town, the portuguese area, and any other culture i've left out. we've recently had a transit system strike. our bus / subway system is called "TTC" (toronto transit.....commission? lol, fuck i dunno) so that sucked. they held us for ransom over the weekend. full on strike with like 1-2 hour notice. ppl who were downtown didn't even know. came out of the bars all ripped and on 'auto-pilot', only to find buses were non existant, and the subways were locked up. it was fucked. i know cause i was one of these ppl. anyway, they "struck" at like....11pm? or 12pm. eitehr way, not nice. honestly with the shit that happens here in toronto, as a city, it often feels like we're springfield on the simpsons, or something to that effect. i.e., one year we had an infestation of these little bugs, so they imported these lady bug lookin things to eat the original infestation. this now left us with an infestation of lady bug lookin' things. lol. left'em scratchin' their heads on taht one. anyway, no more stoned rambling. i'd say i like living here. we even have weed cafes! one where you can rent high end vaporizers. volcanos are sweet. oh yeah and joker, about the smoking in bars and shit. yeah i miss the days when you could smoke in bars. (but i dont' smoke cigarettes anymore) i remember right after the ban was put in place, some places still allowed it, and just took the hit. considering the business they would bring in, a ticket for cigarettes was nothing. some clubs now still allow it. esp underground parties. but that's a whole other story. even ontop of smoking cigarettes inside, i've smoked joints in some clubs i've been forced to go to. lol. (not a clubber, but i go for ppl sometimes) honestly at times, it seems as though there is no law enforcement in this city when it comes to drugs and such. i think this also has to do with how the weed laws are sorta in limbo. anyway, i think i'll save some space for someone else to write something.
i dunno it's really confusing there are some neighborhoods where people don't really care but most places have yuppies that will call the cops and shit. you have to just know where you can go and where you can't it's really hard to tell if you don't know the area i've only been busted twice but both times it was cause someone called the cops on us not cause they actually found us. most younger people are chill about it but construction workers and shit like that always call the cops.
my hometown is a small, racist, redneck town pretty much.. it's kind of small, and doesn't have much to do in it at all, so most people do drugs since i live out in the boonies, there are never any cops around, so we can smoke freely.. but i can't say the same thing for the downtown area. there's also a bunch of old people in my town, so i'm sure if you'd smoke in public, you'd be getting a lot of attention. my college town is also pretty small, but there is weed everywhere and yes the cops are extremely gay about it.
Montreal? Its pretty lax on weed, you won't really get arrested unless someone calls the cops complaining about the smell, As for buying weed, its fairly easy, just ask anyone on Ste. Catherine's street and the worst that can happen (unless they're an undercover, which is rare) is that they'll tell you to go to Mont-Royal or something. Which is also where I got 2 g's of white rhino for 10$ =D
ya montreal is so fucking lax. people think Vancouver is the Amsterdam of north america, but montreal is defiantly a better city for smoking in than Vancouver. Even the cops smoke.
Raleigh NC, is pretty much a college town like 7 colleges and university within 20 mins including UNC Duke and NC State so there are a lot of weed smokers and a lot of haters as well. I use to smoke on campus all the time fav spot was outside the gym behind the tennis courts perfect spot lets go STATE!!! lol people would walk by and some would sit down and smoke a dubie of their own
I'm from Kalamazoo, Michigan and they're pretty cool about pot. 3 disc golf courses and 3 colleges. One kid got busted making DMT though, and they didn't take too kindly to that....
I'm in Victoria, its very lax here. On April 20th there were about 250 people downtown beside city hall smoking up and nothing happened.
Not really sure I havent really risked openly smoking in my town. Theres alot of rich yuppie types so I dont know, but Im also in a pretty liberal area. I'm gonna keep it on the DL still because it is illegal and you never know who's watching.
