Im growing some Perplex from DPCco. and have 4 females and 1 male. The male is in a seperate part of the house growing alone. I would of chopped it by now but I had a question. Say I intend to grow more of this strain a few months to a year after this next harvest and grow ALOT. Can i simply just grow a female next to this male and yeild a few hundred seeds? The females were from gaurenteed Fem Seeds and the male was given to me by a friend who just ordered 11 of the non fem Perplex seeds. So you've got question one, here comes the next and probably most important. Is the fem seed partner to this male suitable for reproduction? I didnt know if they did anything to the seed to gaurentee a female but maybe fuck something up to make the seeds it produces unsuitable.
I have read an article that stated that feminized seeds should not be used for breeding due to the method of forced male flowers. There are different chemical methods used to force the sex change. You would be better off getting some clones from your buddy and keep the male in veg state or clone it just to keep it going till the nonfeminized clones can go into flowering. But yes put a flowering female in the room with a pollen dropping male and you will have thousands of seeds. One problem. Normally seeds are sold as F1s (first hybrid cross) repollinating F2s may or maynot give the same plant as grown initially. IF you keep a female clone going and keep backcrossing the males into her, eventually you may be able to inbreed the line. Some strains are not that stable and should be held as "clone only" to preserve them without ordering new seeds. Hope this helps.
Male selection is very complicated and you would not want to start with just one male and no reccessive drug trait selection. Also as Bill said the whole Fem seed thing is a marketing ploy geared to those with limited space and most serious growers do there own selection of females . There is a male and a female for a reason and both contribute traits to the sibling cross. Sub
