Being first time growers, my friend and I planted a couple of seeds all in one cut off 2 liter bottle (cut closer to the bottom). 4 seeds sprouted about 2 weeks ago. They all look very healthy, but are taking a lot of water. After doing some research, it seems to have been a bad idea to plant them all in one container. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this problem? I don't want to ruin the plants by transplanting them indivually. What are the consequences of planting them together, other than possible fertilization of the female plants. Also, we planted the seeds in soil taken right from the ground. Is there any way to introduce potting soil?
I forgot to mention that 3 of the plants sprouted with less than half an inch between them. The other seedling is not far away.
there are really no ups to this it was a completely bad idea the first problem is the roots will tangle up and be almost impossible to transplant another if the plants even grow what soever their growth will be stunned horribly if at all possible if they are not to close together try to move them now into their own pots that are at leave 1 gallon pots per plant
Thanks, thats what I figured. When you say their growth will be stunted, do you mean perminately or they will just take longer to bud?
i mean say they are 1 inch tall there are 4 of them in a 2 liter soda bottle then they will just not grow what so ever the wont grow over 4 inches tall so if you are planning on keeping them all in the soda bottle then i would just throw them out and save yourself from getting caught
2 liter / 4plants. Not good, Since your plants are still babies they will survive a rough transplant. Meaning that you can almost completly strip all soil from roots since they hardly have any any replant them, and nurse them back. If you have no garden experience. then I suggest you put all 4 into a 5 gallon container. As they grow, mature and flower you can kill of a male should you see one or more and not effect the others growing. As for stunting, They will just use more water and share the nuits in the soil. Not fully giving each plant direct Nuits. While there isnt a major problem multi plants in one pot, With a soil medium its just harder to maintaine than a rockwool multi plant set up.
Thanks nignag and orison for the advice. I will attempt a transplant tomorrow using a large pot with potting soil, and will spread out the seedlings. I would like to add that my friend and I aren't retarded, it was a spur of the moment idea to plant the seeds we found in our weed (we were high). We just dug up some dirt from his lawn and popped the seeds in. We weren't expecting them to grow. Now that they are, I'm excited at actually having a plant that yields some weed. I have been researching it a good deal, and think I have a good idea of where to go from here.
Well thats how you get started, remember outdoor soil is full of pest that will flurish indoors, dont mix plants from indooors, outdoors without knowing the Bug/Pest rules. Good luck.
Just thought I'd give an update. I transplanted as recommended. All 4 plants spread out in a very large pot. The roots of the plants growing close to each other were slightly tangled, but I was able to separate them without damaging the plants. They are growing healthy now. Thanks again for all the help!
