ok so my plants are just babies only about 3-5 inches tall so i need some nutrients and i heard that liquid nutes with more nitrogen will give you a higher chance of getting female so what brand shoud i get that has something that is NPK that is like 20-10-10 and i need a brand and possible a cost i water my plants with poland springs water because we have a shitload of it i put a hole in the cap then squirt it in the pot but i would need to know how many drops in a regular sized water bottle help would be very much appreiciated thanks in advance guys kaz
Hey Kaz, I wouldn't base female % on liquid nutes - I have heard that the higher N influences it but if you are just starting forget it and assume a 50% male/female ratio. General Hydroponics FloraNova brand works pretty well in soil and there is no mixing (like the 3 part). Only be sure to shake the crap out of it as it is thick. Seedlings require very little nutrients so be careful and follow the directions - a tds ~ 300 ppm. Mix your nutrient solution in a gallon jug so as to get the correct ratio and then transfer it to whatever you use to water with. Drops? 3,000. Who knows. You have to water when they need it, water until you see run off into the drip tray. Resist the temptation to keep the soil soaked it will kill them as will over fertilizing. If you go to granular nutes Peter's 20/20/20 is decent but needs a bit of epsom salts now and agian for Mg.
I would generally not use any nutes while babies develope. I would begin a slow feed only after the Plants became stonger, By looking at the plant when its germinations leaves fall from the stem, The stem or main stalk is hardening, I would then use a light solution like BubBill has described. Over nutes will stress out any plant cause burning and once you overdo the nutes there is no turning back your soil will be on fire. Id stay clear of all MG Miracle Grow products to avoid burns and lack of nutes that you may have no experience with and stick to organic soils and nutes recommended by other MJ growers. But if you burn up your soils with Nutes your chance of having Males spikes higher on the charts. Throw in a wacky light timer and that will triple the chance of males.
