She takes Effexor XR, Trilipital, and Focaline for mood stabilization, depression, and learning disabilities, and this renders her unable to take most kinds of birth control. Are there any that might work?

Condoms are a last resort. And she is scared of sponges cos of UTIs.

Her therapist says birth control tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant, fucking with your horomones, and causes you to have mood swings. She does not want her mood swings being fucked with.

there is an IUD (not the best option) and Condoms.
If I was her I would go to a free clinic and talk to the nurses there about the best options for her

also diaphragm or cervical cap are options, but it sounds liek either continuing with condoms or opting for an IUD are probably her best options atm

whats so horrible about condoms fro you guys? tried ultrathin ones to see if they overcome any problems y'all might have with regular condoms?

I was thinking of a vasectomy, since they're relatively cheap, but I've heard of pain and loss of sex drive after the operation. Is this a real risk?

And she definitely wants to get a hysterectomy one day, cos she has really bad periods. She's 19, and her doctors say she's too young, and I think you have to take hormones after getting one. Are there any negative effects of hysterectomies?

    And what's an IUD?

Also, what are the risks of Sponges? Or just using spermicide?

And are there any other sterilization methods besides Vasectomy?

youre both too young for any sane doctor to perform permanent sterilizations on you (well, vasectomies can sometimes be undone, but rarely)

iud - inter uterine device http://womenshealthmatters.ca/centres/sex/birthcontrol/iud.html

read over http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control-4211.htm it hash good info, ie http://www.plannedparenthood.org/he...ol/birth-control-sponge-today-sponge-4224.htm for sponges, http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/spermicide-4225.htm for spermicide (i will mention that the nonoxynol9 in most spermicides give some women yeast infections, such as me, and so its not a great option for a good chunk of women) and finally http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/ask-dr-cullins/ask-dr-cullins-birth-control-14252.htm has some questions on what to assess in a birth control choice

(i still dont really see whats wrong with condoms for you two, but whatever)

Vasectomy is not cheap really and your young and they will not perform the operation for you. Now just a question why would u want to fuck up your chance of ever having kids cause ur gf has some phobia of sponges and in my opinion u haven't stated why u 2 cannot use condoms.

if it is such a bloody hassle u 2 having sex and not finding some sort of contraception then simple dont have sex untill u get through her head that condoms r the only go or she can get fitted with a IUD mind u the IUD lessens ur chance of having kids in the future.

Doctors would just laugh at you cause ur only 18-19 so leglally Your too young. They will not perform a historectomy on ur gf as she is too young and ev en if she has bad periods they will not touch her. I myself suffer from extreme endometriosis i have 10% chance of having kids I have a son and i go through painful periods with vomiting fainting blackouts and extremem pain and my doictor will not consider a full op untill im over 35 years old.

Have u ever thought there might be some phobia on using contraceoptive whats so wrong with a condoms. u really need to go and sit down with a nurse and discuss ur options cause if she isnt going to have a real open mind about condoms or IUD's or the diapharm then sadly u can either risk it and pull out and hopefully dont becom e pregnant which i think will fuck ur life up even more as she doesnt sound like she is coping the way it is.

Discuss ur optiosn with her and tell her to try things take things slo0w and try one thing as a time if she doesnt like one thing move onto the next in the end she is going to have to use one of them or go without.

On the other hand her therapist should not be telling her not to take the pill cos iof its side affects. Of course the pill will ahve some sort of side affects but it doesnt affect all people who take it it is different to each and every one of us we mayget it mildly while others get it major. Its a trial and error game take one pill if ur body copes with it then great but if u experience side effects which get out of hand other than the normal side affects of putting a checmical into ur body then u change to one that is more suited to ur body and chemical capacity. The pill is 97% or more effective if it was so bad like nher therpists is saying they r then why do millions of people take them and I for one was on efexor and lexapro and watever other medications and i was taking the pill mind u i am a lil moody but it all comes down to the protection u got to sacrifice something to get something. I would rather be moody then become pregnant when I do not want to be pregnant.

The pill comes in many forms try the mini opill to start off with them gradually go to full strength ashe doesnt know anything untill she tries all options.

TALK TO A MEDICAL PRACTINIONER . A PHYSCO THERAPIST DOESNT KNOW THE MEDICAL SIDE OF MEDICATION LIKE A GP/DOCTOR. GO FOR SECOND OPINION ON THE PILL. TALK TO A NURSE OR DR ABOUT FAMILY PLANNING AND OPTIONS AVIAL.

My Human sexuality teacher told the class that an Intra-utrine device(IUD) is the best option, it is one of the most highly effective methods of birth control, and you can leave it in for 10 years, if need be. Unfortunatly when they first ccame out they caused alot of scarring and other problems that gave them a bad name, but now all those IUDs are not on the market and alll the current IUDs are very safe.

my best advice grow up!!!!! if ya arent willing to wear a fuckin condom ysa aint mature enought to have sex period...

second..talk to the dofc abouit concidering weanning her off the psych meds 80% of the time theyre prescribed unnecasarily and the side effects are 10 times woirse then the symptoms theyre trying to trewat (not in all cases a few ppl actualy do need them but not mopst...the symptoms the docs are trying to treat with them can be caused by them)

but ok back to birth control
your 18 shes 19 your just startijng to have sex... your having sex with some1 who may or masy not have lifelong mental disorders
chances are the person your having sex woith today may not be the person your having sex with next year (i know nobody will evedr believe that every1 thinks they will be together forever but the chances of that are below 10%

just cause u dont want kids today when your too immature and dumb to unroll a lil condom to prevent ya from fuckin up your lives
doesnt mean ya wont want kids in 5 years when your with some1 whos a lil more stablke (or for her mature) so surgery just so u can fuck a screwed up chick without a condom is the most insane thing yas could ever do in your life

sorry to use such harsh language but dude some1 hasta shake some sence into ya

you hsve no idea what ya want today how can u ever know u wont want kids someday?

just use a fuckin condom..use it with a spermicide u might want 2 or 3 formjs of birth control if she cant use the pill

and lastly.. even if she gets on the pill..or uid..or anythgijng... use a condom

    only condoms prevent disease
and no matter how much u trust ..u just never ever ever know for sure
especialy if shes gotr severe depression

wetre u both virgins who lost it to eachother and never were out of eachothers sites for a minute ever since? even if so diseases likie hiv dont have to come from sex
use a condom every tiime no matter what..the only time u shouldnt is when in a long term committed relationship when your intentionaly trying to get preg...other then that.. theres simply no excuse for not wearring 1

even if u castrate yourself so u never cum again u can still infect her with deadly diseases...
    or her you...

grow up and cover up n be safe

As others have pointed out, anything permanent is pretty (sorry) stupid at your ages. 10, 20 years from now, one of you may decide "oh, I do want kids after all." And it would be too late. Plus, no doctor (or most) will not perform a vasectomy on you.

I think condoms are your best bet. The sponge and the cap are not as reliable as condoms, and at 18, I assume you want the most reliable birth control possible. So, just be mature about it, don't look for odd alternatives like sterilization and use the condom. They make some really thin ones now, like the Beyond Seven brand you can get online.

Check out herbal birth control or natural birth control online. I found an interesting article about Wild Yam right off the bat. With herbal supplements, though, a female should get an understanding of her own menstrual cycle, i.e. when she's fertile, ovulating, that sort of thing. Going to a specialist could help your g/f get an idea of how to do this Regularly. You have to be responsible about it, though, when going herbal or with ANY birth control. Missing a dosage means you have to use a backup plan.

yeah I'm with everybody on the don't sterilize! although at your age you'd be hard pressed to find a doctor who would actually go through with that procedure. And if you absolutely refuse to wear condoms I hope you're at least pulling out.

Get a nuvaring. They are safe, and you can't feel them.

The best advice has been given, wear a condom! What's so bad about them? Although the squishy sound they make when you're having sex still makes me giggle. If your girlfriend gets her tubes tied she will have to take hormones and it'd probably give her worse mood swings, as your body is basically going through menopause. (Some of this may be incorrect and please correct me.)

youre thinking hysterectomy, not tubal ligation. but its still a permanent procedure and inappropriate for anyone under 25 or so

Hysterectomies cause massive mood swings, and then the need for artificial hormones (sometimes), so trust me, that's not the way she'd like to go.

I'm not going to jump on the band wagon on insulting you for not using condoms. If you're using them, good for you - if you're not, that's your business and I'm not here to judge you on something you didn't ask about. For alternate birth control I would also suggest checking into the IUD over the pill. My mother used it and it worked well with her and they really are much safer than they used to be. I won't touch the pill either because of the hormone screw-up risk and mood swing risk.

Tanks Allony. Had a feeling I had gone wrong somewhere in that post. Is it just me who lost her mood swings when she went on the pill?

Nah, they can help mood and depression too sometimes by regulating everything.
