I'm a little confused. I know that there has been talk of this on a federal level with the pres canidates but I didn't understand that because neither clinton or obama will be in office to make such a change over the summer. am I missing something?

now I see this article that In new york, they are suspending the tax and having a 'gas tax holiday'. What effect will this really have? Is it definitely going to happen here in new york?

they are talking about the federal gas tax which is about 18 cents a gallon. this tax goes to the federal highway funds which take care of roads and bridges which are in a state of decay in America. over the course of 3 months of average driving, that won't make much of a dent in the overall fuel cost.

in short, it is a political gimick to garner votes

    It's a gimmick.

Woo! I get to save 18 cents every time I fill up my car this summer.
