From a PBS documentary about Bullwinkle.

The guy who did Bullwinkle, Jay Ward, and an associate went on a cross-country tour in a truck promoting 'Moose Island' (actually an island in a lake in Minnesota) as a PR stunt and wanted Congress to recognize the island. They ended up in Washington DC at the Capitol and tried to get into the parking lot with the music blaring from a loudspeaker. They got into a squabble with a guard at the gate who started to unholster his gun who told them to get out. They turned around and went home.

When they got home, they found out that the Cuban missile crisis had started, which they hadn't known about when they arrived in DC.

    Bad timing.
