You can also be happy when you're there. It's when you think it's time to leave the trouble starts.. Depends on the relationship though. If you get there and all you talk about is how you got there, I guess that's not much of a relationship.
Who the HELL said this thread was about relationships??? It was an RT thread, but I guess the mods got it confused. I was talking about life-goals.
do we ever 'get there' though? arent we always setting up some new goal for ourselves, however minor?
Exactly. There is no ultimate "there". That this thread is in the Relationships forum is cracking me up! Even the existentialism forum would be more adequate. But we'll deal with it.
I think when people see the word "happy" they assume: penis and vagina! Together! It's the only way to be happy, right?
Lol I was wondering what the hell was this thread all about. Didn't seem like the typical relationships thread. Guess I'll have to send it back to RT.
my buddy, in a sage-like moment, said "the destination will always be there. it is the journey that changes." I agree with this. as human beings, we need purpose to be fulfilled. so if you have this big life goal, you're might be very happy while pursuing it, but once you get it, you no longer have your purpose. no challenge, nothing to look forward to. unless you get a new goal, you will probably feel less happy than when you were yet to achieve your dream.
happiness is indeed a byproduct of what you are doing (when it is at all), not ever of where you end up by doing so. or at least not ever the latter for more then a few minuetes if that. there are some gratifications from making something and having it come out as you hoped it would or better, and of finding your way arround, and someplace strainge, the strainger the better, but its still mostly, nearly all, in the doing. all those other things, you know helping the world, helping each other, there all part of the same thing too, like making and exploring. which kinds of making and exploring is the most gratifying to any one person, that depends on specific inclinations and preferences of themselves, intrinsic to their individual 'soul'. (soul being here just another word for one's true self, really means the same thing, how i perceive in my own mind it doing, which is the same as saying the nontangable component, really the whole thing, of our actual existence, whatever physical for we occupy is just that, something we experience a life and walk around in). =^^= .../\...
