[IMG] So you set out to perform a certain task. But you realize you need to take certain preparatory steps, such as cleaning your desk first.

Then, as you're dilligently doing your work, unforeseen setbacks arise (e.g., you run out of paper, etc.).

THEN, as you continue to do your work, multi-tasking ideas pop into your head. That is, small things that you could be doing alongside your main priority to optimize your time.

Inevitably the question arises as to what is legitimate prep work, adjustment to setbacks and multi-tasking...AND, what is a procrastinatory distraction from your prioritative task. Sometimes it feels like you never get to the meat and potatoes of what you're trying to do. [IMG]

How do you make that distinction? Thanks, folks. [IMG]

P.S. This thread is decidedly a PROCRASTINATORY DISTRACTION from my work at the moment. [IMG]

The first thing I do is not label anything in such vain bland terms.

Then I just do what feels right at the moment and end up doing what I'm supposed to do anyhow, even if I finish it 5 minutes before it's due.

i find if im procrastinating i start one thing then go fuckit and do something else, that is unless im stoned, i then work dilligently for as long as it takes to complete the task.

warning: work when stoned may have some minor setbacks. example
task: count pennies in the pennie jar
stoners method:arrange coins by date order first, then arrange pennies of the same date by shineyness, then pile into towers of 50. repeat after you knock them all down trying to get them back in the jar

    LOL!

Rubin, I bet that would work for me if I wasn't commited to accomplishing certain things by certain times, and were beholden to certain people to accomplish them.

But I know what you're saying. What I find is that when I'm "in the zone", what I want to do and what I "have to do" coincide.

It's not always spontaneity that gets me in the zone. Sometimes it's discipline that leads me to spontaneity.
