For some reason I felt the need to watch that.

    Wow.

I just dont dont understand it.

It's funny in the very very and I mean VERY posh clubs in DR. They play this kind of music, well they play every kind of (bad danceable) music. I really dont know how I survived. It was probably the alcohol. I rarely went to those kind of places, but sometimes my friends tricked me.

well it's not white boys. It's latin boys trying to be gangsta.

There are black latin boys trying to be gangsta too haha, their music is just as bad. I really really dont think they'll grow out of it anytime soon. It has become sort of a phenomenon.

Yep, same here. You cannot imagine how much reggaeton I had to suffer through in high school. Well, you probably can imagine.

    Alcohol did save me.

Haven't been to a single latin party in college, and I plan to keep it so.

if someone doesnt type in another language than english or type to indicate they have a foreign accent, everyone will assume you're from the US, canada, or the UK by default.

maybe if you typed things out in english phoenetics to read like the voices of the mice from speedy gonzales, people would know you're from a spanish speaking country....

OR you could type all your posts in spanish and then have small print subtitles underneath :p

"i never would have guessed you were...." always cracks me up. of course no one would guess, but its not that surprising. everybody comes from somewhere :p

no one would ever guess i'm from ohio instead of anywhere else, either. why would they?

anyway, manu chao has long been one of my musical favorites, languages not taken into consideration. as i'm not multilingual, i understand virtually NONE of the french and only very isolated words and phrases of spanish, but few and far between. i like a lot of music i can't understand the lyrics of, though. i just think the music itself and the vocals are pleasing to the ear. doesn't matter if i speak the language or not if its enjoyable.

haha, maybe I should start doing the subtitle thing

It happens in person too. It's funny to see people assume you're from somewhere. When I used to wear my hair straight, I always got people asking me if I was from India. Actually here in Canada, people still asked me if I was from India, with my crazy hair. Yesterday I went down to buy some juice and the guy in the store asked me if I smoked Indian or If I spoke something that I didnt understand what he said. I said I spoke Spanish and he said "oh like Popeye?". I have no idea what he meant by that, but ok.

Indian was the one I got the most. I also sometimes get people asking me if Im Brazilian. Usually people from Brazil. I take it as a compliment. Brazilians girls are hot :)

thats true, there are a lot of hot brazillian girls.

there are a lot of hot indian girls, too, though.

either way i think its kind of funny.

its wierd, people of my own ethnic background and nationality have often mistaken my identity because i look very slightly different. i've heard lots of different guesses, which is really strange to me. i have a rather dark complexion for someone of primarily scottish and german descent. usually its in the summers when i'm really tan that i get wierd questions.

for a while i was rather skinny and my cheekbones were rather pronounced. i also wore my hair very long, usually in a ponytail. i shaved every day at my former girlfriend's request. being tanned, with pronounced cheekbones and long dark hair and no facial hair, i was frequently asked if i was a native american....

these days the quesntioning is far more rare.

i had one black guy call me a sandn***** before. i was shocked.

i kind of get amused when people try to guess a persons nationality or ethnicity. first because it doesnt matter. but also because its not that hard if you know somebody and you're curious to just flat out ask them about it in a polite manner.

This is a lot of stereotyping, but I'm just talking in general.
A lot of Indian girls are beautiful, but it's more like innocent sweet beauty, which is also hot haha.
A lot of Brazilian girls are extremely sensual and sexy. They seem to have this intesity. I cant really explain it, but I dont consider me to be anything like that, so it's more of a compliment to me. Does that makes any sense?

I dont know what you mean by sandn***** ?

When I was getting my tattoo. I had a Dominican guy who didnt believe I was Dominican and made me speak to him in the most Dominican Spanish so he would believe me. He thought I was Indian and according to him "I was too pretty to be Dominican" haha, ridiculous. There are so many pretty girls in DR.

    thats always confused me.

line up a few teenagers of asian, american, european, african descent, and any other ethnicities, who come from a middle class US suburb, and they will almost all sound "white."

raise the same kids in another environment and they may "sound" like a different ethnicity.

i dont see how anyone can think race really has much to do with it.

I find it very easy. I just go, hey where are you from? :)

    It's not a big deal.

    exactly :)

a lot of people are just too uptight and too worried about being "politically correct"

they dont even want to mention heritage or ethnicity or anything.

if its someone i know and i'm curious, i just ask. no big deal.

if its someone i dont know, i have no reason to be curious, and therefore no reason to ask.

either situation is pretty easy, and nobody gets offended in either one, in my experience.

maybe its just around here, but people seem to be afraid to talk about some things. the whole PC bullshit has made people more afraid to talk about things like this. its almost as if not only is racism innappropriate, but people seem to think that race itself is innappropriate to discuss.

i find this mostly in workplaces, schools, and social situations involving multiple ethnicities.

I once was in a line to go in a club here in Ottawa. It was the first time I ever went out. Horrible place, never went again and there's this dumb dumb guy in the line and he's starring at me. I usually smile when people stare at me and go like "What?" without really saying anything, because it makes me uncomfortable.
He was "Are you black? You dont look like ypu're black, or maybe one of your parents is white. You know, kinda like Toni Braxton" . He went on and on and I was like.."No, I'm just Dominican". The guy had no idea what I mean and was like "What is that?". I just said "I'm latin, I was born in Dominican Republic" and his reply was "ohh like Jennifer Lopez. I was "yes, like Jennifer Lopez and a million of other people".
It went on for awhile. My roommate got pissed, told him that he should shut up and go home read wikipedia or something, then she told me I wa too patient with people. I just dont see why it should bother me? I cant get angry at people for not knowing things and I dont know, he just made me laugh more with the things he said. I guess it could have been seen as rude. I'm just not sensitive about things like that, because I dont see what's the big deal?
