http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7395144.stm As is 100,000 wasn't bad enough. This could turn out to be a catastrophic loss of life.
its planned.. yes it could have been avoided but the whole world chose to demand there support teams go in before they released aid, knowing full well the government of myanmar would not allow that to happen.. now that the water has reseeded and the diseases have had time to incubate it seems they may change there tunes.. i suppose its probably for the best as 3/4's of there rice crop was destroyed and we all know rice is a very valuable commodity these days in that part of the world.i would imagine there will be plenty of folks going hungry all over asia due to there crop loss anyway it goes ..
Yeah thanks for posting that. I got news that my granddad's okay. I started a thread in politics and it didn't get much attention. Everyone please, if you can spare it, http://www.dec.org.uk/ These people will die without immediate help. I know it seems really distant from here. Burma is about as far away from the world as you can get from here. Theres not constant media exposure on it like there should be.It seems like these people are distant and far away from you. But there not. They are real people, and they are really desperate right now. It's mothers day. You can save a mothers life. Please help.
Worse part is the Indians WARNED the Junta fucking DAYS ahead and they still didnt anything about it.
How should the world handle the Junta? I've been thinking about this lately, and it seems like it's hard to get their trust. I'd say give humanitarian aid to Thailand and other nations, which would then deliver it into Burma under their flag, it still does not seem like enough though. I just don't really want to see an invasion. It's hard to believe that it will do more good than harm. People die, it seems a little more natural when it happens from disasters than from war. Makes you feel weak, there is no real way to prevent this.
i don't know what the fuck. you push, you're an imperialist. you don't, you advocating a government based genocide.
Yeah, it's a pretty damn sticky situation. The problem in removing one regime is the fact that you have to replace it with another one. ...and everyone knows that western presence is completely unwanted in the region to begin with. It's just amazing that the Junta is refusing aid distribution. Such crimes against humanity almost merit an invasion.
International pressure which has led to them accepting aid. http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/news/in...Sect=143&sid=9051683&cKey=1210360947000&ty=ti ... You can do all you can and no more. Military actions not an option now,
i KNOW, right? but there's no way to get around it without being a dick. but not getting around it makes you still a dick. i'm not known for my subtlety. i don't know how to do diplomacy and such. i hope really bad that SOMEONE knows how.
well that's a huge relief. i'd hate to see all kinds of people dying just because the USA has a shitty world image. i mean, honestly, if some government denied it's own people aid that they desperately needed, i'd consider it well within our rights as human beings to go ahead and knock those fuckers down. but if we don't have to, all the better.
The worlds complicated. Who cares about who calles you what. The most pragmatic option at this point was getting Burmse neighbors with good relations to pressure them to accept aid. Malaysia and Thailand particularly. Labels aren't important now.
though, sidepoint though it may be, america ignoring it's "labels" has gotten us in to boatloads of trouble before.
Still doesn't say anything about U.S. aids, but it's good enough that they're accepting global aid from the UN. This really isn't a time for stupid political beckoning, people are dying.
Media fails to mention there's close to 68 million people living there. I'm not downplaying the tragedy but it's a small % of the entire population when you think about it.
Yeah, they'd deserve to get rolled over. But we would just kill many more innocent people trying. We wouldn't save a life.
I grew up in Midland Texas. The populations 100,000. That would have been me and everyone I knew. It's much smaller then the population of the US. We all bleed the same.
