But could the mod(s) please change the name of this selection of forums to LBGT? I feel that the term "Gay" excludes some of those who identify as trans and bisexual. How do others feel about this?
I've only known one MTF trans, and that was when we were 19 and she was only half way there. And a few aquaintances, but I've only managed to be good friends with two lesbians in my life time, and they were only briefly, a couple months or so. I know about the G, dont have much to do with the LBT part
I think the forum is laid out just the way it should. Gay is an umbrella forum that encompasses the Bisexual, Lesbian, Transgender and Transexual. Plus there are some subdivisions of Gay. I personally don't care for the alphabet game. I am bi, but I know that includes gay men 'cause that's whose cock I be suckin'. A bi woman will likely have more in common with straight men and gay women than they would with gay men but we bi men and bi women occasionally enjoy each other. See how confusing it can get trying go be all inclusive. Now if people have a prob with "Gay" being the main header for the rest of the alfabet, I would vote to make the main forum "Queer." I'm here, I'm half queer - get used to it!
Nooooo!!! If "gay" had to go, then the "GLBT" acronym would be the next-best word. Anything but the word "queer." God I fucking hate that word. I agree with the author of this: http://www.indegayforum.org/news/show/27334.html
OH MY GOD! gay is just the term to be used for this forum. bisexual, lesbian and transexual, ALL fall somewher under this calagory! if someone who is asking about a "transexual daughter" lets say...are NOT going to know what glbt MEANS! it is to complicated...when i first looked at this forum, if it was labled glbt, queer, or anything else...i would have NEVER joined because I DIDNT KNOW WHAT IT MEANT. it is so much simpler just to stop tampering with things. DONT FIX IT IF ITS NOT BROKEN!
I don't think it's broke so I ain't fixing it. I do understand the sentiment in back of being real inclusive but the word Gay has become an umberella word that includes all flavor of folks. Yours truely, Steve, the Super Mod
Sorry, (Don't shoot me lol) But I think some of you are taking the name way too seriously,Jeeeez, wow, ouch!. I say leave it alone,it works fine. It ain't broke. Relax, everythings gonna be ok.
I think it will be very hard to make everyone happy. The problem stems, IMO, from the fact that nearly every term for a homosexual person has a derogatory meaning to someone. For example, I hate twink and queer, and gay is only a little better despite being the 'accepted' term. In the end, it is probably best to just leave it as it is.
Uh, I'm guilty of using the term Twink. I Love Twinks. But I suppose some 18-year-old guys could be offended by that. I'm sorry. Can I make it up to you with a relaxing massage?
I feel the same way, although I think putting it that way is harsh lol. I don't care what we call ourselves,no-one means to be insulting in anyway(We're all one big virtual family),It's all good,Got nothing but Love, Change it,It does'nt bother me(Although I think it's fine now). Why make a big deal over it,I can't see any reason to.I don't find it insulting now. That's just me.Do we need to argue about it?? :rolleyes5
I feel like the "LBGT" doesn't cover everyone either. Perhaps that's why I identify with the word queer as a means to represent all of us. However, I do not think there is a need for a change. I think it's fine.
i think that despite these other options being insulting to SOMEONE one way or another, if you start changing the name to something so complicated or confusing to someone who is not a member if the "gay" community, or a new member...they will not know what this forum is about...that is why it needs to be kept simple. AGAIN...its not broke, don't fix it... i do however feel that this thread has become more about what we think it is an appropriate 'label' i guess, and not about the name at all. its now more about how some names are insulting and what names aren't or which ones are politically correct or whatever...thats more of the debate now if you read over it.
