i've been listening to alot of QOTSA and Kyuss and similar bands and i'm really diggin the style they play.

i've been playing guitar for about 2 1/2 years and i know my major chords, power chords, pentatonic scale, and personally am a blues man. i use standard tuning, have an amp with pretty good distortion, and a blues distortion pedal that i can't really get a desired tone out of. Could anyone give me a couple pointers to achieving a QOTSA or Kyuss type sound? like chord progressions, scales for soloing, effects to use, anything of that sort.

stoner rock mainly is concerned with the pentatonic scale and powerchords used in the pentatonic scale. however these kind of bands like to play downtuned, like drop D or even drop C. for solo's they use a lot of wah and delay is used, just standard 70 hard and space rock guitar effects
