Nothing now, whether thats a good thing or a bad thing is up to each of us- i see it as a reason to live life the way i want- cause none of it really matters anyway. i might as well be entertained in the useless length of my existance.
It sounds like you are a nihilist . I disagree personally, I think there is meaning in the world. For example I believe that human relationships have meaning. Truth, friendship and love are real aspects of the world in my view. The progressive disintegration of social community and family relationships as a result of modern lifestyle has led to the ascendency of the individual which can perhaps promote an isolationist view of the world and lead to nihilist thoughts, but that's not to say that they are true.
but if we're just going to die, why does it matter, the relationships we build and such. we're eventually going to be six feet under, rotting
well, what is energy? sure, give me a scientific answer, but how do we really know thats true? or anything else?
What of those dead before you, who are already six feet under and rotting? Few are remembered by name or deed, in which sense their existence as humans means little. They built the world around you, and they build it still, as fertilizer. If life, though, has no meaning after it passes, then you can do one of two things; 1) Make yourself memorable (non-permanent) 2) Live enjoyably, with little regard for your future or relationships, which end up as moot anyway; you may as well, hm?
We are stardust,we are a billion year old carbon, We are golden We just got caught up in some devil's bargain And we got to get ourselves back to the garden. Joni Mitchell Peace, poor_old_dad
That it's a fact that we're all going to die doesn't mean that we're nothing while we are alive. We don't know what we will be after our deaths, but yeah, there might be nothing. We also don't know if it all doesn't matter or not, but since I care I think lots of things matter (to me anyway). How's that obvious? Please enlighten me!
Here's the way I look at things (and apparently, it can be interpreted to allow for both nihilism AND positive action! ): My life may not matter or mean anything, but suffering in other people's lives is real enough to them, so I'm going to use my (possibly meaningless) life to make their (possibly meaningless) lives more bearable. And, of course, there's always one of my favourite quotes: "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." -Hamlet
I'd instead say that we're "obviously" matter, which also cannot be destroyed. We just turn into flowers when we die.
The closest thing that I can come to scientifically explaining it, is that matter can be classified as a wave.
If you're talking about relativity, then it's light that can be considered as both a particle and a wave. If you're talking about String Theory well.. I dunno enough maths to prove you wrong but it seems hokey to me. It IS true, however that mass-energy can't be created or destroyed ("mass-energy" because matter can turn into energy and vice versa, that's what E = mc^2 describes), so technically we go on forever, just not as, y'know, people.
and for what reason was the world built? why was all the hatred created? why are there guns? why are there drugs? why did i walk past a 13 year old kid begging me for money this morning? answer me that, and i'll stop thinking that life means nothing. if we continue to live our lives thinking we are making a difference when things like that are going on, we're all living a lie. life is nothing. we're going to die, and all the terror in the world will just ruin the next generation and the next as it gradually gets worse. and yes, you may as well- which is exactly what i'm doing. when i want to do something, i do it for myself and for no one else. i don't care about my future, i'll cross those bridges when i come to them. relationships come and go, theres nothing you can do about that.
All these things you named happen because we are free to choose. To me lots of people choose to think only or mainly about themselves. A lot of them also because they think they can't make a difference. If enough people thought about their fellow humans and act (even a little bit) by those thoughts in your surroundings you might even got had a different opinion. Instead you choose the easy way and join the numbed down people who think they can't make difference. Or are you maybe looking for some kind of reason after all, since you choose to be pessimistic on a hippieforum?
Noone will ever be able to reasonably explain why every being is subject to such pain in their lives. No person can prevent all evil occurances from happening, even just those resulting of human action; but every person is allowed the opportunity to make their own decisions. The poor will always be with us, unfortunately; someone always needs to be on the bottom But don't think for a second that making a poor person's day makes no difference; and for those who spend their lives fighting poverty have marked the lives of countless people. If everyone thought they were making no difference, then they wouldn't try to. If you want to make a difference, believe in yourself (sounds cheesy as hell). Bad, like good, will never be disbanded. Think of it like a delicate balance. Possibly without evil, people would have no distraction from their meaningless lives to give the illusion of a cause worth living for, hm? The world was always a fucked up place, trust me, the evil wasn't underground, and it's not your fault that it's there. Very well, but recognize this: When old men tell you their self-doubts about their accomplishments in life, it's for taking a similar path. If you ever really want to do something at some point, you'll have to fight/work hard for it. Being able to look back on yourself and regret nothing, that is the ultimate self-indulgence.
