Spanish Rap just doesn't do anything for me, but some jamaican reggae crossovers into rap, starting back in the early 90s with Johnny P (Look Good) make rapping seem almost like second nature Hotwater
Great read. What's the name of that Afro-Cuban percussionist from the 1950s (I'm old school)? Mont...Mant...forgot. Cuba has some of the greatest music I've heard in life, and some of the most beautiful women. As Brazilians, the only Spanish we can actually tolerate is Cuban and Argentinian Spanish. It isn't prejudice, but rather because Cuban and Argentinian Spanish are PACED, much like Brazilian portuguese. Viva la revolucion! I don't like Reggaeton, and Dominican and Puerto Rican Spanish, but their women give Brazilian women a run for their money. My two cents.
I feel bad for your children. You'll probably force them to listen to Jimmy Buffet when you're old, senile, and still lack the notions of musical quality.
I don't want kids. And Jimmy Buffet sucks. Anyway, I like so many different styles of music. "Gasolina" is one song. One out of a million.
Yeah, I'm just giving you a hard time. I could see the potential appeal of "Gasolina" is you haven't really listened to other reggaeton.
Yeah, that's pretty much what introduced me. The thing is, these super-popular songs that the radio plays every hour appeal to me a year or two later. When no one no longer remembers them. Weird. And you're about the fourth person to give me a hard time about "Gasolina"
I'll also give you a hard time for The Doors being your favourite band until you realize that you should know better than that.
I think Cuban Spanish and Argentinian Spanish is the nicest sounding Spanish. We Dominicans speak waaaaay to fast and cut to many words and put too many things together, but that's only when Im talking among my friends. If Im talking to my dad, at work, in school, it's paced and proper. But yeah the common everyday Dominican Spanish is not pretty at all, though I thought Puerto Rican Spanish is way worse. I cant stand the accent.
One would hope to grow out of the Doors by then. They're an alright band, but Jimbo is a talentless drunk whose lyrics and poetry pretty much suck with a few exceptions. The music iteslf ain't bad, but it doesn't break any grounds that other bands haven't already broken. It's an average band.
Well, that's an opinion. Calling him a talentless drunk is ridiculously harsh, that's the way he was portrayed in that asshole of a movie. I'm not what your Doors-knowledge-level is but that's definitely not the right medium to base your opinion of Jim on. The Doors just helped me a lot growing up and I could relate to their lyrics with most of my life's situations and I still can to some extent. I listen to them less than I used to and classic rock in general was just a period for me that you grow out of. I listen to a lot of hip hop and electronic stuff now, stuff I used to mock and despise not more than 2 years ago. The Doors, though, has still stayed with me while Manowar, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and even Led Zeppelin seem rather.. stupid.
I know my Doors, I used to like them a lot more when I was a lot younger. Eventually, you learn to realize that Jim was a talentless drunk and that the rest of the band was what pulled them through. I don't know how Zep can seem kind of stupid to you though, it's far from being my favourite band, but no one could really do Zep's thing as well as they did. Their sound still stands out in the genre, even though a million bands tried to copy it. I guess that one could listen to way too much Zeppelin and get bored of it. They have a whole lof of obscure stuff out there that's worth checking it. People tend to "outgrow" Zeppelin before discovering all they have to offer. I'm just harrasing your ass because I think that it's time for you to move away from the Doors into better music, which is truly out there... but I guess you're already doing that, even though electronic music has a whole lot of shit in it and a small variety of good music.
lol this threads like a chromotography test. start with spanish rap, leave it (in water) over night and...tada you got one convo about spanish and another about music.
I still like a few of their songs. Musically. But lyrically, man.. How long do I have to hear "Woman, I wanna make love to you!". Well, I doubt that I'll ever go as far as saying Jim is a talentless drunk. The band has just stayed with me and staying with it won't slow me down. But there's plenty of good electronic stuff out there. Although I don't listen to some real rough shit, lately I dig techo or drum and bass remixes of Michael Jackson's songs for example What better music are you talking about, though? I saw you recommend The Mars Volta in some thread.. which I think sucked. So recommend me something if you want but nothing similar to them please
