So my best friend and i decided to go interrailing this summer, and im really excited. Because its our first time doing something like this, were going to France and Spain, since weve been to those countries quite a few times before (especially France, ive been there at least a few weeks every year and have been to pretty much every region before). I was just wondering who's done this before, where did you go, with whom, where did you stay, whats good to visit, how was travelling by train, etc etc etc. Im just looking for stories and experiences, so if you have them, please share!

I have never done any interrailing, but it is something I've wanted to do for a while.
However, I have friends who did Europe via rail... The Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, Austria etc and they said it was a really effective way of traveling around.

I Eurailed (I'm American) for three months last summer. It took me through eleven countries (my pass didn't work in the UK, I hitched through there). It was a blast! I would recommend it to anybody. The Alps are by far my favorite. I can't wait to get back and experience more.
    love ya', american brother

Thats great Myrtje, but you should take the oppertunity to go someplaces you have never been before. Maybe Eastern Europe. And it's so cheap there. 50c a beer in places. My firends would reccomend Cesky Krumlov in Cech.

I haven't interailled yet. I like the idea but I would want to spend months. I don't want to spend just two nights in one place and then move on. Two nights is never enough to find the true heart of one place.

    Good Luck! :)

P.S. visit www.couchsurfing.com you may have somewhere to stay or people to show you around the best part(s) of their city/town.

Hi Mirtjie, I've always wished too about going on interrail...haven't done it yet...I should do it this year 'cause, sad to say it, I'm getting out of age...on the other hand I've been told from a friend of mine who was last summer just in that zone, that french rails are a rip-off. Anyways i think interrailing is one of the best thing you can do this summer for many many reasons...have fun!

Ive been to Cesky Krumlov, very lovely town! But since this is all new to us, we just want to try this out in a place we know something about. And my best friend studies French so she really wants to spend at least part of her summer in France, for practise and such. Its true that you cant really experience what a place is like in a couple of days, that would take years and thats why its not what were expecting of the trip. We just like the idea of being on the way, visiting new places, the surprise and adventure of it all. Ive heard about couchsurfing before and ill definetly look into it some more, accomodation seems to be the most expencive part so it would come in handy too. Thanks for your reply!
