They are sorta like a turkey, a dry'ish white meat. They really good in like suaces or gravies or cut into little pieces and fried. i had mine in a oriental suace, very tastey indeed.
i'm definitely open to trying it... i'm sure it is way better than squirrel...squirrel meat was pretty disgusting if you ask me...
Yeah. Rabbit hunting when I was younger. I almost killed a rabbit today. It had been hit by a truck and had broken it's back. It was hobbling along the side of the road when I walked by. I was going to put it out. This woman took it to the vet though. I knew there was nothing the vet could do, but I thought it was a sweet gesture on the womans part though. I didn't have the heart to mention to her that the vet would kill it.
Oh yeah. I felt especially bad because of how relieved I was because she was taking it somewhere else to have it killed and I knew it.
I would have if it had a broken leg and could have gotten better. As it was I knew it was just going off to die. It was tragic. I wanted to hold someone. Hold me Hilder.
I am gonna have to agree with you scarlett squirrel meat is funky. One winter in Alaska I hit a squirrel cause I could'nt brake in time and it being alaska and there being a definate lack of abundance in winter activities I scooped the freshly killed squirrel up like the Clampets and took that sucker home...I'd never skinned a squirrel before. 'Spose they might tsate better if their scent glands are not ruptured... I was looking at our squirrel today thinking how much he resembles a bunny head on
yes all the time but right now there is a group of about 10 bunnies in the feilds near my house, I was suprised to see that many one night.. But I did lay down some clover in my yard. I havent seen em in that close yet. Deers in my yard but no bunnies? oh well.. But yes they are good to eat.. This animal must be Gutted immediately after its killed. At least thats what ive been taught. Squirrels can sit for a while it has something to do with stomach sacs?
i made hassenpfeffer (sp?) for easter one year.. was ok. i wouldnt mind trying to cook rabbit other ways but its not common in my city and stupid expensive at the butcher
had it a couple of times. its been years ago now. when i was real real little we had quite a bit of deer meat too. my mom didn't like it. the deer meat that is. i wouldn't say it was great, not like cow at all. but not that bad either. but rabbit. i seem to recall there were a lot of bones. hmm that's almost the only thing i do recall. my dad liked it. he was the one who brought it home from wherever he got it. i think it was he who cooked it too. but dang it has been too long to say anything for sure. that was back in the 60s some time. a couple of times. i don't know if i've had it since then. i almost must have. but still not more recently then sometime fairly early in the 70s, and that's just too long ago to remember for sure what it tasted like. well i think the day will come when feedlot beef will probably get a lot more expensive and less available and we'll all be eating more of those kinds of meat that are currently less common. raising rabbits takes a lot less feed and space of course. which means it could be done in more places which means less dependence of transportation. all factors which favor a likelyhood of seeing more of such things in the future. =^^= .../\...
I only ate chocolate bunnies... not rabbit meat... never... For Easter we sometimes have lamb meat - it's a tradional dish here in Romania, but we don't always have that...
sheep (or goat sold as sheep) IS good too, and i've had that a lot more and a lot more recently then either vinicen or rabbit. i especially like the flavour sheep fat gives to eggs cooked in it. but where i live even that is too expensive most of the time. whereas cow, chicken and turkey are what is cheep, and pig meat too. those are what we have for meat mostly. although recipies with shrooms and cheese instead of meat, or fishmeat instead of landmeat, and sometimes avacadoes instead of any kind of meat too, all are good. just depends on the relative prices in the stores when i'm shopping for groceries. eggs, p-nut butter, all of the different kinds of protien sources, prices always fluxuate in relation to each other, and so usually we just get whatever is the best price on that week or month, though we always try to get more then one kind, because i believe a healthy diet is a diverse one. =^^= .../\...
Oh yes I have seen alot more people raising goats and sheep around here recently. A real trend of smaller animals is being seen. I guess its becuase feed costs are high, the loss factor if a cow dies compared to say a goat or sheep ect. I figure on a couple goats (lawn mowers) would be a good idea.
