Ok, so my female Doberman Pincher always carries around my belong's (shoe, sock, boxers) and walks around with them in her mouth whenever it seems shes excited. For instance whenever I or my parents get home she'll greet us with something in her mouth, always! She also does this when we let her out, she'll grab something quickly and take it with her to the door as soon as she can. Sometimes when she's eating her dog food(that she dislikes) she'll carry around dog food and her mouth and pick up as many clothe items as she can and walk around crying in the house. What does this mean? Thanks

This is actually pretty common. A lot of dogs just do this. Normally it's retrievers, not dobermans, though. It could also mean she is bored, and needs a "job" to do to stimulate her brain.

    is she reasonably submissive?
my bc tikki (rip) used to do it as a young un, i always felt it was a submissive play invitation. a bit like a play bow but less pushy, so the dog feels she appeasing pack leader.
also does she cry every time she does this or just occasionally?
if just occasionally and she is not spayed, the crying and carrying items around can be a sign of a phantom pregnancy, and she could be pretending the items are if fact puppies. i have seen one bitch try to nurse a collection of boots!

    Awwww
Whenever my cat would have kittens my dog would act like that. She'd try to nurse the kittens..
But when the mama cat flipped out she'd wander off and cry somewhere. Then she'd try to nurse her toys.

That's really cute!! I once had a male dog that was present when a litter of kittens were born. From day one, he watched over those kittens like they were his own. If he had been female, he probably would have tried to nurse them!

I don't currently have a dog; I do have friends with dogs... when a dog greets me with something in its mouth (toy, bone, etc.), I feel "accepted". Dogs greet people they like by bringing something to 'share' - whether they surrender the item or not! LOL!
