Hey guys, Here were my dreads the day after I got them done, yes I know I look like a total berk, especially as they didnt even resemble dreads! I used wax to start with, but I actually despise it, its just holds your hair together not letting it go natty naturally Then 2 months later Just taking a pic now ,3 months down the line Any tips on rounding the ends? How long did yours take to all lock up, some are alot slower than others Peace of the Grove /|\ Alex
alex... please tell me the white stuff in the dreadlets isn't mould, or wax or really bad dandruff or melted rubber bands. other than that they look pretty good... I heard rounding the ends is done with a crocheting hook but I'm not certain. it takes years for dreads to be mature, but to lock up more or less took me 7 months the first time (with wax), 6 the second (without wax) and the rest of my life this time (from scratch). just be patient and enjoy it
Thanks Puppy Nope not mould, dandruff or Dreadwax, Its beeswax but dont worry Im not putting any more in again They look a bit better now, just trying to find the camera *rolleyes* Im going to try the crochet way any guides anywhere? Peace of the grove /|\ Alex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdYxAVo_0A8&feature=related Thats a crochette video. I wouldent worry about locking up... looks like they are doin just swell.
okay I'm glad to hear that but if I were you I'd try to get rid of the beeswax too, I don't believe it's goodfor the dreads. I'm not certain it gets mouldy but I think it ends up flaking and kind of nasty. I'm looking forward to seein the updates. good luck to you mate
i thought there is no way to have dreadlocks and not treat them crochet every week here in heaven, crochet is a basic tool but they look nice anyway. get rid of wax and try not to use it.
Don't crochet them right now man. I don't even recommend crocheting at all, but if you must, AT LEAST wait until they are actually matured a little bit. If you tried it now, they would probably just get fucked up. just give it some time, they will probably loosen up and then tighten back up eventually.
Yeah, pass on the wax, either now or very soon...I wouldn't really recommend crochetting (sp?) yet, you're dreads probably aren't tight enough to hold in hairs that you crochet in. You basically just need to play with them- rub them quickly between your palms, rub the roots against your scalp, and rub the tips between your fingers (between your forefinger and thumb). You only wanna wash them once every 7-10 days, longer if you can stand it; natural oils are good to have in there for awhile, cuz they'll help to pull in hair- you just have to make sure that you wash them before the oil stops helping and starts hurting.
sorta backwatrds thinking there ya wanna wash ..sure you learn that you dont nereed to wash daily weekly is perfectly fine but the point isnt to wash as lil as possible or wait as long as u can u want to wash as often as u feel like it 2-3 rimes a week is just fine weekly is about perfect but tellin em to wait as long as u can stand to isnt the right wAy to go..
they look pretty good, dude. if you havn't soaked your dreads in super hot water, i would suggest doing that
Thanks guys, and btw Dopeamin, I suggest you do what Adrien says. Since that photo was taken, all the wax has flaked out, so dont worry guys I havent washed it in 4 - 5 weeks Havent crotched(sp?) my hair recently. Thanks, guess its just the waiting game! Peace of the grove /|\ Alex
to round off the ends, i just take the tip of the dread and rub it clockwise in my palm. it's not an instant fix, but i don't think anything is with dreads. it just makes all those loose strands go away so that they look a bit more like dreads. but for the most part they look great don't listen to people who are trying to discourage you. they're just mean men with no mommies.
You think I should re-comb it! WHAT! Sorry man but Im not re-combing it, it was only on the outside of my hair in one lump, it just fell out after I combed it. Melissabee: I will wash it tonight Peace /|\ Alex
