No one played or sang it better than Jerry Garcia - and that's a fact!! Probably because at the time the Grateful Dead started playing it Jerry was knocking on heaven's door himself. RIP Jerry, I miss ya!

Dylan's original version is the best. I hate guns 'n roses.

Every version of the song is great, that's how awesome a song it is, but you can't beat Dylan's original, Bon Jovi also did a nice cover of it too.

Dylan's original by far. When he does it live, he sounds like he is knockin on Heaven's door.

yea, Dylan's is by far the best. The main problem I have with GNR is that their singer's voice hits those insanely high pitches sometimes, and because I use headphones mostly, it hurts to listen to them... lol

Dylan has a terrible voice. Always thought he should have remained a lyricist, because he's definitely good at that.

    GnR version, definitely.

All of the Dylan version's are the best, if I am remembering correctly my favorite one is from the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. GnR's version I do not like, that cover is one of the bloated megalomaniacal covers that Axel decided to do that ruined the band.

GnR's version was waaaay too overdone. They took all the subtlety and emotion out of it. Avril lavigne?? I haven't heard it, but I can only imagine that it sucks big time. Bob Dylan did a great job, but I haven't heard the other ones, so I'm not too informed :D.
