of course i watched that movie, on DVD. oh god it was soooo cool. im glad i found so many Pink floyd fans. there are only a hand full on the ASMBs and every one else there think you have to be on crack to understand the wall. those fools, those puny mortals. . oh well, im glad im back on the hip forums after a 3 year hiatus
'A saucerful of secrets' is the most underrated album. I love all the songs. The title track is amazing, and 'Jugband Blues' is Syd Barrett's best song. and 'tommy' was not the first rock opera at all.
I also have a vinyl copy of Piper! It's a great album, I like to listen to Piper at the gates of dawn, and Saucerful of secrets in the same sitting. I love the two together. I wish Syd would have had more of a prescence on the second album.
Yeah, me too! BTW... this may sound weird to you... but I really like «bycicle», don't know why... that song is so... weird, lol :S I like it more then «bycicle» from Queen... hahaha
yeah, the rocky horror picture show came before tommy does any one besides me have a copy of some of syd's solo albums?
I have all his solo albums in the original LP versions, original CD releases, and the very rare and limited box set with extra tracks. I also have a few import compilations, and a few versions of piper.
Yes. I have: The Madcap Laughs - Vinyl The Madcap Laughs - CD Barrett - Vinyl Barrett - CD Opel - CD The Radio 1 Sessions - CD
Ah, good old Saucerful of Secrets...incidently, the album Floyd were in the process of recording when Syd was dropped from the band; hence, what some of the lyrics to his Jugband Blues refer to. I'm certain the Beatles must have ripped off Pink Floyd at least once, as there's a line in Let There Be More Light that goes: "For there revealed in flowing robes was Lucy in the sky..."
waters was just name dropping that song, saucerful was recorded after pepper. Though the floyd was recording piper at abbey road during the same time the beatles were recording pepper.
Well, the legend goes that during the recording of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, both bands were getting ideas from eachother. I have a theory that Paul McCartney was inspired by Syd to make his "mouth noises" during recordings. Syd did a lot of that on The Piper, and Paul first started doing it on Sgt. Pepper. I'm not sure if there's any fact behind that, but it sounds logical to me.
Its not a big deal but its looks like that post ^ has me quoted saying all of that, when in truth I only said "Its pretty good, though not my fav Pretty Things era ( I prefer there earliest beat boom material)." wacky anyway yes I love the small faces as well, steve mariot was awesome.
actually john lennon got that from his son's picture at school, john asked what it was and his son said lucy in the sky with dimonds. besides, saucer full of secrets came out in 1968
I thought, when I first read that person's post, that he was joking in a sarcastic way. I didnt think he meant that to be serious. I figured that most people knew that Let there Be More Light was written and recorded well after the Beatles recorded and released Lucy in the Sky. Actually, Let there Be More Light was the first tune that the Floyd recorded without Syd's presence. This was in March of 68. There are a good handful of the tunes on Saucerful that were outtakes from the Piper sessions, but this wasnt one of them.
well, it wasnt just Syd who came up with the "mouth noises". Roger came up with alot of those, especially on Pow R Toc H. Usually Roger came up with a hook usually by mouth noises ( for example, the bom bom chi chi that starts out PowR TocH). The rest of the band would improvise around that hook. Also I dont remember any part on Sgt Peppers that has any similair mouth noises, I simply dont recall them at all. I havent listened to that album in quite some time, though. Maybe you can point out a song that has those mouth noises?? I believe most of the influence to Sgt Peppers came from the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Frank Zappa's Freak Out was another influence.
