True. Haha, I love Waters on the beginning of "Pow R TocH." As far as I can recall, "Lovely Rita" has them in the background. There may be more, better examples though. I haven't listened to it in quite some time either. Oh yes, I knew that. However, I read that both bands got ideas from eachother when they were recording because they could hear eachother. I suppose they only slightly influenced eachother, though. In fact, it's reported that Paul McCartney even went over and met The Floyd when they were recording to tell them that he liked what they were doing. I don't know, there's just some interesting information out there...
right, that is true. I believe Paul McCartney was the only Beatle who came in to the studio to listen to what they were doing. It was also rumoured that he would dress as a person of Indian or Middle Eastern decent when he would go to some Floyd gigs in '66-68. I do recall reading somewhere that Rick Wright admitted they would sit in, listening to the Beatles record Sgt Peppers, and that was the first time that he actually liked what the Beatles were doing for popular rock music at that time. He was strictly a jazz guy before that.
Yeah, I read that... somewhere. Heh, really? I never knew that. That's pretty interesting. I never knew that either. Heh, thanks for the info.
ok, I was just reading in one of my books where it was during the mixing of Lovely Rita where the Floyd met with the Beatles for the first time. So who knows?? maybe that meeting caused Macca to put something Floydian in there. Paul was the only one who talked to them during that meeting, and he said that what they were doing was unique and creative, and he liked what they were doing.
also, other than Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend was influenced by the early Floyd. You can hear a bit of the influence on their Who Sell Out album, most notably the song "Relax"
Heh, maybe there really is something to that "theory" of mine. It should also be noted that Macca has continued making those "mouth noises" throughout his career. Yep, yep, interesting stuff.
Ahh, good point. The chorus does remind me of something Floydian. Hmm... I'll have to look in my big, Who book and see if perhaps they played any gigs together. I'm thinking that they did.
yes they did actually. I have one of those concert bill posters that has a gig where it featured Pink Floyd and the Who. Also the Move was part of the bill. This was New Years Eve "All Night Rave" on sat dec 31st 1966. admission was just 1 pound then.
People might think john was the most "into" the underground but actually it was paul. He went to all the clubs and kept up with the scene. He actually lived in downtown london where as the other beatles all had places in the rich business districts/suburbs.
ok so my birthday is coming up, and im having trouble deciding what to get. here are my choices. 1. the wall DVD 2. live at pompie DVD 3. Piper at the Gates of Dawn CD 4. Umaguma CD these are my floydian optians. please help me decide
This is something everybody should do. In fact, listen to the entire album repeatedly. Because, Lovely Rita... where would we be without you? Oh right, back to the Pink Floyd, then
