we need more queers here, rather quiet.. anyway, how many people in your family are queer. are you the only one, or do you have cousins, brothers, etc. that are also queer. and if you do, do you know about eachother and maybe talk? i have a lesbian cousin that i know of, that's about it, and i'm bi. just curious if queer runs in the family lol...
I have a first cousin and a second cousin both gay and living with partners. Both on my father's side of the family.
I have plenty that I never talk to, or have even met. My mom said though she didnt think I was, she wasn't entirely surprised with how many we have on her side. As for family I talk to on a normal basis, I am the only one.
I kinda have my suspicions about my uncle. He's 51, single and lived with his mother until she died. I know it's a stereotype, but it kinda makes sense, and he seems unmotivated financially in the same kinda way that a lot of gay guys are.
wtf? so you're saying most gays are losers and don't have a job or money? i'm 28 yrs old and i make more money than my mom and dad combined together, they both work full-time and i work part-time. AND i also live with my parents. i know a few other gay people who drive corvettes and vipers and live in huge houses.. just like many other str8 people.. actually, most of the gay people i know are more intelligent, sophisticated, and usually have higher paying jobs then most of the str8 people i know. not sure who's ass your theory came from.
calisouth will tell you all about how gays don't get paid as much as straights and how awful it is. I'm not saying all gays are like that by any means, but it does seem like the gap between motivated and unmotivated gays is wider than among straight folk. The ones that are career minded tend to throw themselves at that, the others who aren't tend to be happy making just enough to get by. There's less incentive to save money, to get on the property ladder or all the other things heterofolks do if you're never likely to find yourself lumbered with kids. That's just common sense. I'm not saying that I think my uncle must be gay because he is a loser. It's just kinda circumstantial stuff. He does have a job, but he's never sought out a better or higher paid one. He does have money, but not more than he needs to get by on. That's all I'm saying. On an aside though, and obviously I'm not claiming this is representative of the whole universe, but in my experience, financially sound gays are in a minority.
@SelfControl, well i'm not using this as an excuse for some gay people not having good jobs high paying jobs, but maybe it's because many companies discriminate against gays and would rather give the job to a str8 person... but, that's besides the point and not what this topic was intended for.
Meh, like you say, don't wanna derail the thread, but I've never been asked whether I'm gay or straight in an interview, so I wouldn't know really.
From what I've seen the opposite is true, especially in industries that employ a lot of women. I currently work for a retail chain that has predominantly female employees, and I used to work for a restaurant chain with a similar makeup, in both cases there was an unwritten rule that you dont hire straight guys over 30 to supervise a site that has 75%+ female employees. And I have a gay friend that works as a personal trainer in womens only gyms, they have a similar rule, not that you'll ever find it written down As for some gays not caring that much about money, probably true, true in my case. I could get a better paying job, but that usually means working 60+ hrs a week which tends to get in the way of your social life. Not as many of us have to worry about the big house, paying for kids. We just need money for a decent health plan and retirement really
