I've really started to get into country since I met a Nova Scotian Guy in Scotland with a guitar and an endless repetoire of gorgeous country/bluegrass songs.

So far I've gotten into Townes Van Zdant, who is an amazing writer, as well as "Tex, Don and Charlie", an Aussie group led by Tex Perkins from Cruel Sea - really, sweet, soulful and melodic stuff, I recommend it to anyone overseas.

What are your favourite artists? What would seasoned country fans suggest?

For classics...Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scrugs, The Stanley Brothers
    For 'newer'...Allison Krause, Nickle Creek,
My favorites of right now...Trampled by Turtles, Pert Near Sandstone, Townhall Stompers, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank
I sometimes catch myself going to one of their myspace pages and wandering from there. Tons of good music out there. :)

Some of Nanci Griffith's earlier work off her albums The Last of the True Believers, Once in a Very Blue Moon, and maybe Lone Star State of Mind might be worth looking into as well. And maybe April Verch and Abigail Washburn. Definately Gillian Welch, especially her album Revival. [IMG]
