Hiya all! I know I haven't posted on hipforums in a little while but recently I was thinking about ways to get travelling and I thought maybe, instead of trying to engineer something complex together myself when I don't really know much about it, why not try to find people who are already keen or groups who are already on the move, and then go with them?

So that's my new approach anyway, I have even signed up to sites like WAYN!

So yeah, if anyone is looking for a travel buddy or if there are any cool groups of travellers out there who wouldn't mind me tagging along, then drop me a line and maybe we can work something out! It would be fantastic to finally get on my way, I've been sitting here in England for waaayyy too long!

By the way I'm 23 and a guy, and would love to see new places and experience the world a bit more! I need a chance to really get out there and live :)

Ok, chat later all and take care!

    Mike

well, i'm not really so sure of the practicalities of it all, i thought if i ask around on boards maybe because i won't be thinking about it alone things might come together. I'm really happy with any way of getting from place to place, but I'd rather survive as I go than save up money initially, although I do have about £800 that I can use to get me started.

As for places, I've really been thinking I'd love to see America (mainly California and Florida and places like that), Europe again - I'd love to see Greece and visit Italy again too - but really I'm quite flexible and would just like to see where things take me!

    How about you?

sounds good. going with the flow is always the best way to travel, throws up more opportunitys. inter-rail is supposed to be a good way to get around and that way uoi can pick and choose where you want to go next. ive been looking at going around europe for some time, would love to go everywhere but pretty sure i could never do it on my budget, although if i was looking at going away and staying for long enough in each place i would probably try and work along the way to earn some extra cash in bars/restraunts etc. how long are you thinking of going away for?

well the thing is, i'm fairly certain i don't actually want to ultimately live in the UK, as I feel so drawn to hotter countries and the mediterranean! So I dunno how long I'd want to be traveling, I'd probably just go with it and then stop for a while when i find somewhere really cool lol How about you?

Rail is a good way to do it though I've heard yeah, and apparently merchant ships for cheap travel overseas. Europe is probably simplest to travel around, or maybe just a good start as well for someone planning to go further, as it's simpler. How much money would you want to save up?

well ive got some rainy day savings as it is as i tend to not be a big spender in every day life which is handy, so probably would make do with that for the trip, just save up enough for the initial travelling costs to get started. i'm the same as you, i feel drawn towards hot climates and love the lifestyle of meditarian culture, the athmosphere is so different to england, which im starting to get more and more discontened with every day.

oh and merchant ships sounds like a great idea!

yup i agree! i'm just not so sure about the english approach to things, and the way the society here feels, i've always felt like there's something not quite right but i dunno what it is. I hope one day I find somewhere I feel happier, or just a lifestyle I feel happy with :)

So would you be going with your boyfriend (i'm sure i read that on a thread you messaged on but i can't remember which one lol)?

the english approach to things is pretty awful for the most part. although obviously there are much worse places to live. if i were to go travelling with a group like youre suggesting or a few of us i doubt he would come, his job doesnt allow him much time away and hes really only would go to humour me for the most part i think. lol.

aww hehe, so it isn't really his sort of thing? is he happy staying in england and with his job and things?

i think the english approach is kinda unusual, we work really hard and don't put too much or any real focus on like family or community or good food or you know... things like that. We just get on with our own little thing separate from one another. I would prefer more focus on like the family and nice meals together and everything, I think it's important.

So do you think a large group or a smaller group or 2 or 3 would be best for traveling? i'm never really so sure.

I know it can be a bit scary at first to get started, but once you're on the road things just flow naturally and everything comes together.
