Even thou i'm still 18, but from what i have seen during the last 8 years there has been alot of change going on in our society.
I have this feeling that the counter-culture is nearing it's end.

Ok, so, i live in this medium sized city somewhere in belgium, our city has been growing almost exponentional and it was yet in 2000 that it actually earned the title of city. One of the reasons of the growth are immegrants from east europe and the middle east.
I can recall the times when our city was still small and children would play on the empty streets, there was little care. Then when when our city grew bigger the picture of playing kids in the street changed to low-in society drug addicts and grouping immigrants acting like they are a gansters, and rich kids with big ego's thinking life is all about fucking girls and acting cool (sorry for my use of language ^^). Our once little city became the typical kind of city with poor sub-urbs and criminality, also it was clear that there was a big social barrier between rich and poor wich got bigger within the years.
Saying that everything got worse, and i think that this is not only in our city, but everywhere in belgium, and maybe in the rest of the world. I know that alot of my friends, got to realise that something is wrong, my friends who you can consider as regular mid-class people, who care little about the mainstream, they seem to develop a hate against aggresion and the gansta style wich has been a hype for a long time. Also they don't like the johnies (rich people) , one of my friends got mobbed by a group of those a few weeks ago and got so badly beating that he had to be stiched on several places, he was in a sitatuation where he didn't provoced any aggresion, but just got taunted and phsycal beaten by this group of "rich people". Now, i'm not only speaking for people of my age, i know alot of younger friends, who are at the age of 12-14 who are developping the same ideas about society as we do.
When i was that age, i didn't even stood still about society, neither did my friends back then, so it seems there is some kind of progress in the human conscioness and more and more people start to realise that alot of shit is going on. More and more people are also starting to say that a big war is coming, or that a crash of society is immenent, that big changes will crush life as we know it now. Maybe it is just the poor hope for something better, but that just indicates a form of being openminded, and as a wise person once called it "multi-dimensional" thinking, thinking behind the ego, thinking about what is going on in the world.
More and more people are stepping out of the mainstream.

Maybe it is just because i'm growing older and that the people who i interact with are also growing wiser. But from what i see in the streets, and at parties, or at school, i somewhere have the feeling that more and more people are just stepping out of the stream and start thinking for themselves.

Anyone else who is noticing cultural differences from personal experiences? i have been thinking alot about it, and maybe there is still hope for the human race besides of being enslaved by this brainwashing machine called society. [IMG]

Hmmm, this is a very interesting question. I'll have to think about it...
Anyhow, since I don't have an opinion yet, I just wanted to say that that was a thought provoking post, and that I dig your writing style. [IMG]
