Timothy Leary takes the cake(laced with acid) but Kesey is a close second.

sorry but personally i think leary was an egoistic, irresponsible maniac, who only cared about himself and bein in the spotlight. to me hes just like all hollywood celebs, nothing that came out of his mouth was real or from the heart, even people around him didnt like him, n most people who looked up to him hated him when they met him, he also never treated his friends like friends. sometimes i suspect that he was a CIA agent. "turn on, tune in, drop out" is why the sixties died. thats only my opinion so no flaming pls. if ur against my opinion state urs.

I do agree that he was very full of himself and definitely irresponsible, but as for the spotlight bullshit... So what? He had his time and was loving it. I think it proves that you can be a hardcore tripper and famous with a lot of influence. But I have to ask, do you know the true meaning of "Turn on, Tune in, Drop out"?

'Turn on' meant go within to activate your neural and genetic equipment. Become sensitive to the many and various levels of consciousness and the specific triggers that engage them. Drugs were one way to accomplish this end. 'Tune in' meant interact harmoniously with the world around you - externalize, materialize, express your new internal perspectives. Drop out suggested an elective, selective, graceful process of detachment from involuntary or unconscious commitments. 'Drop Out' meant self-reliance, a discovery of one's singularity, a commitment to mobility, choice, and change. Unhappily my explanations of this sequence of personal development were often misinterpreted to mean 'Get stoned and abandon all constructive activity'.

Sorry I don't have time to read through this and see if I even agree with it, it was on wikipedia... If you read the cover of flashbacks it says his personal statement.

I agree with navajas, Timothy Leary is basically responsible for acid being illegal. He tried to dose the world, and it scared the people in charge. Aldous Huxley had the right idea, to keep psychedelics for the intellectually elite. That kid you hear about in propaganda who killed himself because he thought he could fly wasnt trying to reach a higher state, he was trying to trip balls. People like that give a bad name to psychedelics, and are basically the result of Timothy Leary's doctrine. I voted for Abbie Hoffman, cause hes badass.

Of all the ones mentioned in the poll, I'de say Timothy Leary. One of the greatest psychologists ever in my opinion, and was well on the mark.

the beatles were a perfect mirror of the times, they evolved with the times and john lennon was killed because he was in the spotlight, although i wasnt there, this is what i believe.
