Has anyone else seen the devastation that the santa cruz mountains wildfire has created? It has affected the wonderfully amazing mount madonna facility, Nicene has been evacuated, so many beautiful places. The homes that have been destroyed in the wrath I cant even imagine. There has been so many natural disasters, the earth is trying to tell us something. i live about 40 min away from the fire, but go to school about 20 min away, yesterday the air quality was terrible we were all coughing and had to stay inside. Boogabah are you safe and sound? If you havent seen it, you should. It is amazing how fast fire can spread and how big it can get.
Video documentation of the devastation would help everyone to understand the magnitude of the disaster http://youtube.com/watch?v=XsfwiRfvB80&feature=related Hotwater
Yes, fire does happen. That's the risk you take when you settle in such lovely scenery. There's something beautiful about fire, so powerful, yet so fragile... so alive. I can understand why ancient civilizations worshiped it.
Worship it all you want, just as long as the burning bushes don’t talk to the firemen as they did to moses in the book of exodus Hotwater
That's what I love about having a lighter. I have the gift of fire anywhere I go. This means that I can burn my friends' junk mail on their front porch.
i've always loved fire... but it does really suck that it's destroying so much stuff right now. it is interesting what's going on with natural disasters lately. i think mama earth is trying to tell us we need to wake up and do something different with the way we live our lives and take care of the environment.
A Taoist would say that we have destroyed the natural balance that keeps this world functioning. We have underminded and near eliminated nature out of lives. We have enslaved our own mother, and the mother is pissed off. Its gentle hand is slowly restoring that balance in a slightly harsh, yet brutally gentle way.
I do agree with those who believe fire to be enchanting and a blessing to man, yet in this case, the fire originated in a vacant lot and it is strongly suspected to be an act of arson rather than anything related to the natural world (i.e. lightning). I have great difficulty understanding why anyone would wish such dispair on the world by the misuse and abuse of fire. I truly hope those adversely affected by this senseless tragedy being the firefighters, resident humans, pets and an abundant wildlife population are protected by forces greater than mankind, since we obviously have those among us who have no respect for the natural world. I really hope they apprehend those responsible and throw away the key...
Far as I can tell, there are not any more natural disasters then there were in the past, its just that, it effects more people now because there are more people then there ever was before. There are some nice places in the Santa Cruz mountains, hopefully all that's burned will grow back.
The start of the fire could have been arson, but the day when it started was the windiest day of the year hear, making the fire spread and the smoke spread creating terrible air quality, which is related to the natural world. I do agree though that whoever started it needs to be apprehended for ruining so many homes, and beautiful places, not to mention burning mother earth. They evacuated camp Qoinonia ... thats where i had my 6th grade science camp. :bigcry:
yep.. i moved out of the area in december, but i have lots of friends and "family" i'm worried about there. this summer, in lompico, we had all talked about how horrible it was going to be if a fire started. there hadn't been a fire in 30-40 years there. the duff is FEET thick in places. it's just a big dry patch waiting to burn up. a lot of the road are very narrow and are going to be hard for fire crews to get their big trucks up. i'm glad the winds have died. hopefully they've contained some of the fire. i'm not finding much about it online or the tv. i'll be down there, right off 17, for thanksgiving. i hope the fire is stopped long before it reaches that far.
thats not the same fire, thats from may of last year... so it still doesnt say anything about "the magnitude of the devastation" of the current fire.. just shows what a wild fire looks like...
That was the whole point HHB to get her to document the fire. Maybe you should go back to shooting at some food as for the arsonists I'm sure they'll just say .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKu2QaytmrM Hotwater
I am sorry about your family Boog, but im glad you are ok. It has been hard for me to find updates about it too, the last i heard was that is jumped highway 101 into gilroy and now it is 35% contained. ill keep your family in my thoughts Boog.
It is happening right now, i dont know where to find it, and it is not what im worried about right now.
