not a counter arguement, i was to lazy at the time to make any counter "arguement". The fact is im not argueing, im just pointing out that you try way to hard. The way someone dresses and looks doesnt make the person, Dreadlocks dont make a person, neither does a beard. Everyone falls into a stereotype, you cant avoid it. Even you fall into "im an asshole who tries way to hard to be different and criticizes others" stereotype. Being different doesnt have to do with your look, its in your personality. If others look at someone a certain way because of the way they look, thats their problem, and their closed mindness, such as you. But seriously, keep trying and judging others, you will fit right in to society. And if you didnt want to fall into the "dirty hippy" stereotype in the first place, maybe you shouldnt of gotten "dread locks".

    OH THE IRONY!!!

    Where did I say otherwise?

Just because I don't want to follow the hippie trend, I am trying too hard? I think you have it backwards. It's ok for someone to have dreadlocks and be an otherwise "normal" person in society. If you follow the hippie image or have dreads to appear so, I'd say it is you who is trying too hard to be different. Don't get me wrong, its a very glamorous and captivating lifestyle, but the negative stigma that accompanies it is what I'm talking about here. Our personal opinions aside, look at it on a larger scale and you will see.

Well, obviously. I haven't argued against that either... I don't think you understand what I'm arguing here. I'm not saying how you look matters based solely on what others think of you.

Its like you just can't comprehend the larger scale argument I'm making. Who cares what someone thinks of you, its when their opinion gets in the way of your well being- then it very much mattters. Even on the first page of this forum we have a thread about someone worried about being denied their medication due to the stereotype we have (dreads=drugs). "Who cares?" Bull shit. When it effects whether or not you get your medication, you better damn well care.

No. Like in the example above, it DOES become your problem. If you are in a court room with that attitude, then you can look forward to a harsher sentence. Unless of course you're only talking about passing someone in the street or something- in which case it went right over your head. Again, think of it on a more broad scale, not "oh no! what will the kids at school think of me!?" attitude you seem to be interpreting.

Well, I'm posting at the hipforums... have more posts than you actually. You can say I'm a "hippie" or sorts. Just not your cookie cutter definition.

first thanks for taking everything i said out of context. second, why do you have dreads? third, I never judged you, i simply told you you were being extremely irigant, theres a fine difference. Fourth, your still trying to hard, how long did that post take you? like an hour? congrats.

"Its like you just can't comprehend the larger scale argument I'm making. whats your point? if she really couldnt get meds because of her hair (which would never happen) then dont get dreads, its not like the end of the world, not trying to be rude but its true, cause that stereotype will always exist.

theres no need to take what i said out of context or make huge extravigant posts, the point is, you dont need to tell people how or what to do to stay out of a stereotype, if you were really against stereotypes you wouldnt even care at all.

Let's see, you called me an idiot, said I was a stereotypical asshole, and questioned whether I should have dreads or not. I don't think you are above judging people.

I also don't see how everything was taken out of context. And what makes you think that took me an hour? Is that how long you figure it would take you?

There is just so much wrong with that post.... I won't even touch it.

Either way, after this I'm done with you. Its clear you're just too set in your old ways. I've made my point. But before I go-
Ignoring the problem or pretending it doesn't exist usually isn't the best way to go about it.

what the hell is going on in here? lol

are you serious? I wear dreads and a beard because I WAS BORN WITH IT. That's how nature intended it, and that's how I will keep it. maybe you live your life worrying about what stereotypes people assign to you, but I can't be bothered with that. I do what I do because I believe in it, and if other people try to label me, it shows a small-mindedness on their part.

trust me, once you stop caring what strangers/society thinks of you, your life becomes much more enjoyable.

    Also:
Accepting and embracing whatever nature gives you is admirable, but your hair wants to become one giant dread.... do you allow it to do so? If not, then you aren't following what you say.

..........lol. That says alot about you... and... we'll leave it at that....

But this is all in good fun lol

IMO a beard is not a requirement for dreadlocks. Is a man less "legit" if he doesn't sport a beard? Is a woman less "legit" if she cuts any hair on her body? That elitist attitude is more ridiculous if you ask me.

Where are the open minded and diverse members? Everyone has the same opinion and are basically repeating what previous posts say. Yet still, no one has attempted to refute the argument at hand. We know it shouldn't matter what others think of you- I'm not arguing against that, so you can stop trying to shove that down my throat. I'm saying there is no reason why dreadlocks should prevent us from anything. Why do so many allow and even enforce what society has done in the way of dreads?

I think a lot of people fear that if dreadlocks are more socially acceptable, then more and more people will have them. Thus making dreadlocks look less original and special. There is a word for it, VANITY. People (especially with dreadlocks) will deny it up and down, but the truth is thats the case for many people. If everyone had dreads would you still want them? Say what you will, but I'll bet half of the members here would seek a new path.

he he ;D (p.s. why aren't the smileys working?)

lol I didn't read the whole thread cuz it's 5 pages of you guys squabbling like little kids. My hair is natural but I will not allow it to become one giant dread. even though I rip it, that doesn't mean its still not all natural. are you a guy or a girl?(lol sorry, I can't tell). because if you are able to grow a full beard, then you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to shave everyday. My hair is low maintenance so why wouldn't my beard be too?
