Hi, I just found this website and it seems pretty cool. I am a second year chemistry major looking to do some lab work in my house. I've taken all the fundamental classes, and I am starting organic chemistry. I was hoping someone here could tell me some kind of "easy" drug synthesis I could perform at home to then enjoy afterwards. Now, when I say easy I understand that chemistry is not all that easy, but I am just looking for something that I am capable of doing at home without some of the major risks such as blowing up a city block or creating some kind of nerve gas. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. I really enjoy chemistry and drugs (EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE) and I would like to pursue a career in chemistry. I just want to do more labwork (and of course who doesnt want to make some cool drugs) to gain experience for the future. Thanks in advance
hmm off the top of my head im not sure what drug has an easy synthesis. I recommend you look into the book, PhiKal, this book was written by a very experienced chemist and drug enthusiast, this book has many synthesis's, you'll be glad you looked into it.
You want easy? Get some pseudoephedrine and oxidize it into methcathinone. Or you could try changing l-methamphetamine (vicks nasal inhaler) into d-methamphetamine (meth)
Now that I think of it, a great, fun synthesis would be "Bright Star's MDMA Synthesis for the Fist Time Chemist" Read the entire thing, its fairly easy and very interesting.
If it were possible, it would no longer be on shelves. But I'm fairly sure anything is possible in chemistry, even if it takes many, many reactions.
It involves turning it back to P2P (I don't know how), then converting to racemic meth by any of many well known methods.
PhiKal, left one thing out? if you dont know what it is your not going to make shit and has for buyin the book online yer just make sure to leave the door opened for the ten cops
Meth is probably one of the easiest to synth if you can get what you need. Many people can make it without chemistry understanding. Thats why they call it cooking. For those looking for pihkal its online here www.erowid.org/library/books_online/pihkal/pihkal.shtml
I'm going to guess that if you'd ask a question like the OP did... not only are you not really a chem major, you should not be trying to cook up drugs in your house. UTFSE
are you serious, just because someone buys phikal online doesnot mean that they will get heat...i have friends who have bought phikal and thikal for the read and in support of his work, they have backgrounds in history and astrophysics not chemistry. one of these two has consumed only one of the chemicals in the book.
Alternatively, you can try fester's suggestion of a heat and pressure-catalysed conversion, which seems to work well enough pushing l-phenylalanine to d-
*big smile* tryptamine is watched closely, and other routes are a bit hazardous to be attemped outside a fume hood with an inert gas source. it's also tricky avoiding pictet-spengler cyclization of tryptamine when refluxing tryptophan with certain ketone catalysts.
