I tend to try lots of new brands, but for the most part I try to buy local brands as well. Easier on the budget.
I usually try to get a different bottle everytime we get some. Usually Chardonnay 'cause I'm not too fond of reds. Also, I like pretty bottles.
I like red, dry wine... brand doesn't really matter. Recently I am receiving bottles of Jewish wine from someone... so I guess I appreciate that one...
Carlo Rossi Chianti. About 9-10 dollars for a gallon jug. Its my house wine. Tasty but not overpowering. I supplement that with selections from a local grocery outlet store. I can get quality domestic or imported wines for $4-8/bottle. I favor South American reds. Italian, French, South African, Australian, are also available. Always red wine. Its the only one with health benefits. Helps keep the arteries cleaned out. Last time I drank white wine, I threw up all over my keyboard and mouse pad. Bleh. x
i dont usually drink white wine, but occasionally i get the urge to have some. its nice once in a while. i like it chilled on a hot summer night when its hot enough i could run the a/c but not so hot i feel i HAVE to.... i know very little about wine and feel very lost looking through a wine shop. i'm learning a little bit. i know a lot more about what different types of wine are than i used to, though theres a lot i still dont know about. the hardest part for me is knowing what will be good and what wont. often i try to look something up online that has good ratings for a lower price tag, and then try to find it somewhere. more often i go on intuition, or pick a cool bottle blindly. yesterday i went to the wine shop and just picked a spanish wine based purely on intuition. it was within my price range (it cost about 14 bucks), and the bottle seemed to call me even though its nothing too ornate by any means. its called Pagos de Quintana, and its way better than it has any right to be for 14 dollars. they make other wines too, but this one says at the bottom "tinto roble 2006" its very dark and thick and the description on the back says it has flavors of toasted vanilla, and i was very shocked to find it to be accurate. intense dark fruit flavors with vanilla..... i know little enough about wine that me finding a wine that i just really, really like is rare. i usually get wines i really enjoy, but i'm occasionally somewhat or very dissappointed. this i enjoyed enough that i KNOW i will be returning to the particular shop to get this again, especially since the price is so reasnable. i recommend it if you're on a budget!
well today i went to the store and i was looking at wines, and saw one i was sure i'd seen on "90+ rated wines for under $20," and if i see one of these wines they're ALWAYS on my to-buy list..... so i went with a bottle of can blau 2006, a red wine from spain (not sure which region) indeed, i've found out it's received ratings as high as 92 points, and it ran me only around 16 bucks. haven't tasted it yet, but its my drink for tonight, though i also bought some scotch.
Sitka i completely adore your signature You a forestry or countryside management student? And Wine, i tend to pick by age and/or budget accordingly
I try and buy local, not only to help with the money I spend but also then I know the wine hasn't created a big footprint of energy to make it to me.
I usually buy a large variety and then keep note of what was good. I noticed that 2004 was a good year so I try to get that. oh and they're reds. 95% of wine in the bottle shops in Australia are Australian. apparently we make very fine wine (so long as its over $14 a bottle that is). So we buy anywhere from $14 to $30. I love merlot and dh loves Cab Sauv. I have recently discovered how nice Sangiovese is too.
I go for the cheapest nastiest wine that is available at the moment. so usually I end up with rossi :ack2:
