"no question is stupid" only applies to elementary school. In the real world, there are stupid questions. More often, they're lazy questions from people who don't want to invest the time to find readily available info.

There are some good photo guides of the PF tek online. I will distill the basics, but you should read and follow a tek closely because there is a certain degree of science involved. Unless you have a strong grasp of the concepts of sterility and mycology, don't try to improvise or cut corners.

    Steps:
    1. Extreme cleanliness must be maintained at all times.
    2. Jars are filled with a mixture of brown rice flour, vermiculite, and water and sterilized with heat.
    3. Under sterile conditions, the jars or innoculated(planted) with legal mushroom spores(seeds).
    4. Jars are sealed and left to incubate until the mycelium colonize the jar(thing plant roots in a pot without any plant.
    5. Jars are birthed into a humid fruiting cell, and exposed to modest light.
    6. Flushes of mushrooms will grow. Once mature, thesee can be harvested and mixed into your favorite stirfry.

Thats the basics. People usually F up on the sterility front. You are creating the perfect ennvironment for fungus and molds to grow. You want to make sure the only thing growing is your desired species of mushroom.

You need this and this (for procedure, peat/vermiculite sucks, just use straight verm.

I'd also suggest that you buy this and this. I own both, and they're invaluable, especially The Mushroom Cultivator. This isn't the easiest hobby ever. It's not exactly hard, but it's very precise. I'd suggest reading until you can explain the entire process, as well as the life cycle of a mushroom from memory without a flaw.

Once you get the PF Tek down, you can move on to things like whole grains, liquid cultures and bulk substrates. That's where it gets fun, because you get options of substrates, bulk subs and all kinds of things. Working with Psilocybe Cubensis with grains also helps you prepare to grow things like Panaeolus species, which can be incredibly potent.

For your first strain (everybody asks) I would go with maybe Ecuador or B+. Both are very forgiving to environment fluctuation while still being potent. Really, though, a Cube is a Cube is a Cube.
