I'm stuck!! (if you couldn't tell by my 'help me' forum under 'random thoughts'...)

    I LOVE MUSIC.
I love rock n' roll music.
I'd love to be a rock n' roll music journalist (or just ride in their vans with them *cool*).

Are there any psychics out there? What should I do?
I'm 17... and damn scared! I know everyones like 'oh high schools so easy you'll miss it when your out'... but I just want to have some kind of direction.

    I. Don't. Know.
    Do you?

I'm quite a good writer as you can probably tell from this brilliant forum.

Should I do something with music/writing or/helping the world, as I've always wanted to do sometime in my life but want to get 'established' and 'comfortable' first...

Give me a yay or a nay.

To be honest, if you enjoy writing then do it by all means. You're young so you might as well try it out and see if you like it enough to make it your profession. A lot of people switch careers many times throughout their lives so there is no rule stating you can only work in a field that pays a lot of money.

So do what you love and if you enjoy it.

    Hope that helps.

Do something better. Try to ride around on tour with bands (probably not big ones) and then after a year or a few years, write a book.

Better yet, become a song writer if you're good at poetry. Then find a good band and see if they like your stuff.

Want some advice from the inside?
Journalism is a sinking ship, and "music journalism" is all MTV expose sorts of things.

If you want to be in journalism, no matter the topic, then consider it.
The orbit of big name journos who specialize in music is shrinking. That can mean a thriving indie scene, but that's best done before the years of covering town council warp you.

The number of people I know who tried their hand at music journalism who are now asking do you want fries with that, or went over to corporate PR is staggering.
I survive because I have a niche and I am a writer for all.

Don't ask us. Really, you should make the decision, seeing as it'll directly impact you. With that said, something in Music sounds like it'd be really cool

I did (once upon a long long time ago) want to become a song writer. But no.. Couldn't see that, to be honest.

That's what I've been hearing, over and over and over again. :(
    It makes me so sad.
If I could take myself back to the 60-80s, I would! Absolutely.

But, as my mother says, you don't have to be stuck in the same career. I could go onto something music/writing related, or go back to college and study something new.

Life's a journey you gotta LIVE IT :D

Thanks for the advice! I totally agree where you're coming from.

How old are you? I suggest you find something that you like doing and pursue it in college. You will probably even change your mind along the way.

No one can tell you. But from my experience: if you do something for a specific reason (like that you wanna get close to the musicians), it never works out. Maybe you'll be luckier.

    I'm 17, 18 in April next year.

Well, I love writing, and I love music.
That's the short story I wrote... Check out the talent!!]
Anyway... so yeah, I'm very, very passionate about both those things. I'd love to study them. Music Journalism is just one of the many careers that could possibly steam(stem?) from them, I'm sure.

No, lol. I'm not one of those crazy girls who thinks becoming a rock journalist will make it easier to get closer to the hot rock stars. I'm not deluded! Seriously, I think they all will hate me. Music JOURNALISM is not the path to take if you're thinking of marrying a rock star. I just want to be it because I listen to music all day long (problem: It's mostly from the '60s, '70s and '80s...) and I love writing.

okie dokie. if you think so. just note: listening to music all day long ain't the only thing you need. I guess most of people around here love listening to music all day long as well (f. e. me) so... but good luck, anyways.

Can most people realistically see themselves listening to music they don't really like (or even hate) because they have to write about it? Or giving an honest opinion on something that's 'cool', and not just saying that it's 'cool' (if they don't like it), actually explaining and giving reasons for it?

There're options out there: nurse, lawyer, teacher, scientist, vet, glass-blower...
And I can't think of any other profession, other than music+writing, that I'm actually passionate about, and can see myself loving. :)
