Is the soul already in existence or is it created when one comes to Earth? How did we go from Adam and Eve to 6 billion people.? How did all the animals get onto the ark? The only possible way of getting across the ocean is Pangaea, when there wasn't an ocean to cross. The people mentioned in the bible to have lived hundreds of years, how is this possible? Was the year measured differently? We are now on a Roman calendar. -The 7 days in the beginning cannot possibly be the same days of today, as our day revolves around the sun, the sun did not exist until the 4th day. There are 365 days in a year, but we can't have a year without days, and we can't have days without the sun.
personally, as a person who really loves christ, i take most of the bible as a parable. i've never been good at literalism. and genticists ARE currently examining the "methuselah" gene. i would think (and this is my sci-fi fan speaking) that those long long lives were possible because of environmental supply would allow for a longer life. also, i suppose that in one way, the only reason incest became tabboo is through the propagation of congenital defects after the "fall" and ejection from eden. other arguments say that adam and eve weren't the only humans on the eart, but rather, simply the chosen children of god, as opposed to the animals "homo sapien" (which predate homo sapian sapiens). let's see what else you ahve here for my fertile imagination: the seven days thing. well, when i went to chruch, the bishop, who had a doctorate in philosophy and languages mentioned that the words in the first translations change "forever/eon/eternity" to "day" to fit the lesser understanding of time into the language of another people with a different concept of time. after all, god dredged adam up from the earth, how's that different, execpt in it's childlike simplicity, from evolution from the primordial ooze? the ark. well, archeological evidence DOES show in various places a massive flooding at various times. it is a human experience within a realm of understanding and thus more likely to be immortalized, like the great black sea flooding. think along the lines of global warming after the ice ages. HUGE changes.. i don't quite understand the literalist/global biblical take on this, but it's an amazing story, nonetheless: be that little nut standing your ground and grow into a mighty oak. whatever the questions, there are some wonderful questions and personal answers to be taken from this. after all, for most people within the western hemisphere and beyond, this addresses a lot of out morees and practices. literal interpretation or humanistic approach, it's powerful stuff. i think it's only powerful because it spoke to a lot of people.
The Adam and Eve thing ... the only children they had that are named in the Bible were male. I guess it's reasonable to assume God made more people. Kinda surprising that no-one addressed it at the time though. The flood myth is so common between cultures, rather than just the Christian ones, that it seems either it happened more or less as described, or that water holds some kind of symbolic value which is applicable to all people. There are so many congruities between myths that would not have had any contact with one another.
Christians will give you all kinds of answers, most not worth the pixels their printed on. Christians (theists of all types) have a double standard when it comes to belief and knowledge. Many will excuse the obvious absurdities of the bible stories as figurative, but some obvious absurdities get special treatment. In otherwords, they pick and choose what they consider figurative or literal with absolutly no litmus test to apply this reasoning. Example, many theists will exuse the Genesis accounts of the bible as figurative stories yet when it comes to Jesus, the things he did are literal. When prodded to reconcile the need for Jesus if Original sin is only an allegory, they fall back to the word, "Faith", without realizing that the word means, literally, belief without logical proof or empirical evidence. Its OK to call the Noah story, Adam and Eve and the Creation process figurative because today, we know how the world works. But when confronted with the dead coming back to life after 3 days, Rising to the sky, walking on water, etc... Somehow Jesus is able to do these things literally, against all know physics. They have no litmus test they can apply to determine what is figurative or literal, they pick and choose. Some will say that the OT stuff isn't necessary to be a "Christian" but belief in a literal resurrection is paramount to being Christian, thus we have to believe this wild story on faith alone. They are taught that "Faith" is a virtue, when in reality, its the opposite to logic & reason.

As for homosexuality, you can NOT make the claim that it is distructive to humankind. Yes, we know they can't reproduce, but so what? There are plenty of women who can't reproduce either. Are they a threat to our survival? No!!!! There are plenty of heterosexual males who don't produce sperm, thus they can't reproduce either, are they a threat to us? No... the fact is there are plenty of us who can, to make up for those who can't. As I showed you earlier, gay sex is in many of the creatures of the animal world, and yes, humans are animals too. The only difference between Human animals and others is the ability to reason. Other animals speak (their own language), They have sex for fun, they even have limited reasoning abilitites. The one thing that makes us different is the size of our brain. Brain size plays a major role in the intelligence of a spieces and humans have the second largest brain of all land animals and have adapted to utilize it more efficiently for survival. Elephants are the only other land animal with a larger brain by mass.

I apologize, for helping throw this thread off topic. When I replied to Ottoman, I originally thought I was in another thread that he's been following me in. It wasn't until my last post did I realize that Otto followed me here with his dribble. My first post was addressed to you and was on topic. I have to admit though, your OP wasn't clear if you were trying to trap Christians into answering the questions that have no real answer or if you were genuinely interested in the answers to these questions. No, I wasn't trying to do an entrapment. I was just curious on the answers, but I pretty much ignored everything Otto read. I don't care about homosexuality, I was just curious on Christian's thoughts or an invigorating thought from a non-Christian. Thanks for the apology though.
I'll answer a couple for you. Gen 2:7 says that when man was created he became a living soul, thus the soul is not something separate from the person but the person himself. So when the person dies the soul dies. Yes, the year was measured differently but only slightly as they used a lunar calendar instead of a solar calendar. But the real reason people lived longer was that God made man to live forever but after sinning and as mankind moved away in time from the perfection that Adam and Eve had had, the life span of men continued to shorten. Sort of like unplugging a fan, at first it seems to spin as fast as when it was plugged in but the longer it is unplugged the slower it goes. likewise since mankind has been removed from the source of life, God, mankind’s life span has wound down.
I'm sorry, bamboo, are you agreeing with me or disagreeing? Yes the Hebrew word, ne´phesh, is generally translated soul or living soul when translated into English. What English word would you suggest that is not a "christian" idea planted in a "christian' translation? Or are you suggesting the Bible only be read in Hebrew, Aramaic and Koine Greek? Also how does your definition of ne´phesh differ from what I said?
