so what better place to open, err expand our minds there already pretty open, anyways i landed a gig at this place (coffee cafe) as a camera-man/editor...where events are held such as Art exhibitions, poetry recitals, music gigs, and such... its an NGO, doing its thang for the culture...it inhabits... its great that i can be a part, so i have to cover this acoustic performance on the 5th, this would be my trial...if they like my work how i capture it and edit it...then cha-ching....i get payed..for doing something im passionate abt. just need a few guidelines as to ...what things to involve and how to go about it, i m talkng abt the technical aspect such as 'shots' and 'material' please share. i will be interviewing the acts and getting there performances, crowd shots...etc ... what else? AND i get free coffee till the trial ps: pun intended (CHINNNNGG)
DUDE Thats awesome! I to share the same passion as you. Once I pick up a camera im the happiest person in the world!! A gig at a coffee shop eh?! Thats sweet. if you are looking for some great shots, I suggest you use a tripod and/or shoulder mount. Personally Id use a shoulder mount, U can pwn with some awesome shots. What does the stage look like? Is it even to u are is it up higher? how close or u aloud to go to the people playing? Are you filming with another person?? Interviews are really easy to do. But you can make them really interesting by where u shoot the interview and of coarse what kind of questions you ask. If there is a bunch of couches in your coffee shop with pics behind them, it would be sweet to take the band and interview them all on a couch with some cool backround. What kind of camera you using? Im still saving up for one. Im planing on getting a canon xl2. How long have you been filming for? If you need any help or questions id love to help! Im sure u will do a kick ass job and get the gig! Good luck
well, i can do a fair share of editing/shooting, its just that what I'm shooting, i should be thinking in those terms... the site should explain some of the questions, and also point out that its a pretty small space with book shelves and coffee tables. http://www.t2f.biz/
Looks like a sweet little coffee shop. That huge painting on the wall looks like a sweet place to do some interviews. What do u use to edit? I start film college soon and they are going to teach us how to use final cut pro, im so excited!
looks pretty cool, if the lighting is good, then you should get some wicked footage. i'm using adobe premiere for the videos that me and my buddies do for our production company. love it. the only advice that i would give you is have fun, there are no rules in film making.
OOOOOH YES there are rules in film making! And Tommy's gonna learn 'em all in film school...(hopefully) I ain't sayin' you shouldn't break 'em... They're rules not laws. You might actually agree with some of them, once you realize what they are!
Yea, my brother's really the filmmaker. We discuss this shit all the time. I do soundtracks and scores for him occasionally. He said when he was in film school, they made them watch a lot of Scorsese.
Ya Scorsese is the shit! He revolutionized film maker with his sweet revolving pans around people and more!. Like in Taxi when he circles Robert Dinero! I love it! What film school did he go to? Im going to a little one in utah, its not known at all. Its called dixie. Supposedly they have some really kick ass film proffesors. If I dont like em and their teachings Im outta there!!
holla! I'm writing a screen play. I made a *really* short film using my canon powershot a little while ago, just to get started. I'm on my 2nd draft of the screen play. I'm really happy! hey, good luck to the OP - let us know how you did. They say editing is everything. I think if you watch the making of star wars (the original film) you can see they really pushed it with editing in some places. When I was editing my little practice film - I did made lots of little adjustements, coz it was the first time I shot anything, & I made a lot of 'mistakes' so I had to use the editing to compensate.
yeah its pretty small place, but with alot of materal to capture if one looks a detailed look (...lights a joint....) the interview behind the huge painting is a great idea...tommy1 , thanks... i m using a panasonic GS180 ..its 3ccd. i can use primiere/vegas...i have zero experience with macs, and final cut pro... will have to improvise on those cuz they have those sexy imacs there just to be used for purposes like these. (and for customers wanting to browse, check email) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6_owohsNEs <---Part One https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6AytPNu4h4 <-- part two this short film was made in haste, and in a drugged cloud.... edited in one night...shot in oblivion of one self. i think i can do it once i get the shots. thanks you guys. todays d-day hve ta be there in abt 4 hrs.
thats wht i did too, the first film i shot ( i had made few short videos you could say back in the days) but according to me i guess the first film i did, i just took a lot of shots, cuz didnt have a blue print as to what i wanted it the film to be, i decided to make do with the editing. sometimes it does work..if ye happen to get the right shots...luckily. goodluck to you with your screen-play.
Smooth camera work, creative angles, and watch your video transistions. Make sure your aware of how many effects your using and such.
hey, yes..i went and did my work...captured the 4 performances but ran outta battery around the last performance...but all in all caught some good footage... been transferring it since last night, (the power outage is horrible) ... i can edit it at my pace... and hopefully be called in again. thanks for the praise, they are some intense scenes. i remember myself cringing while editing the movie.
