I have just installed virtualpc 2007 this past weekend, and, have nothing bad to say about it so far, it has allowed me to play games I haven't been able to in years, so, what am I missing? there must be a reason all computers don't ship with some kinda vm-ware, and not seeing it myself, I ask y'all (I am running x86 windows xp, windows 98 second edition, dos 6.22, windows 3.1, and ubuntu so far)
VMWare belongs to a company and that company wants to keep track of who is using their products. Generally, you have to pay for a linux distro that comes with VMWare (example: a Linux book from Borders includes an enterprise Linux distro). Quoted from: http://info.vmware.com/content/GLP_...alization101&gclid=CKDB5Kiu4ZMCFRpknAodXSSDWw *edit* I forgot to mention that you can download VMWare free from the VMWare website. It is free, but still belongs to a company.
I don't think any VM has 100 percent compatibility, and also licensing issues are common. Imagine if Mac decides to create a full Vista VM in leopard.... Mr Gates will not be happy. Plus its real fucking hard to create a fully functional VM when you don't have the original source files of the other system at hand -- which means you have to build the other system from the ground up on your existing system. You can also see this at work in emulators like the ones for Playstation, it took almost 5-6 years to fully emulate the playstation one on PC, and by that time the Ps2 was alive and kicking ass. Hope this answers your question Ps. a fully working ps2 emulator is in the works, and by now it is far from perfect
