These days we can do almost anything with music. Guitars sounding like pianos, sax's, violins and any other instrument you can think of. Synths with thousands of sounds and thousands of ways to alter those sounds. Does this freedom make people less innovative with their instruments and lead them to leave all the work to the effects ? I find the quality of popular music these days is terrible compared to how music used to be when there was none of these fancy effects and people had to know how to play. Will we ever have another band/musician that can introduce us to new sounds through skill and influence others to bring back good music to the pop scene ? Almost all of todays bands/musicians I like don't get as much radio airplay as they deserve, but instead you have products of mtv all the time making all the fresh minds in the world think that this is how music is supposed to sound, you know the type I'm talking about.

P.S. If my grammar/spelling is off or I didn't express my point well it's because I haven't slept in like 2 days due to insomnia and that can leave me a bit dim-witted

    Yes, lots of people unfortunately.

Yes, for sure. Although it's rarely the bands/musicians who influence the direction of the pop scene.

I know exactly what you mean :D, I say don't worry about it. If this is what the mainstream wants so be it. At least we know there's more and better stuff than what's on the radio nowadays. I never listen to the radio anyway. There are better sources now to discover new music I like.

i think all things that could have been done, are done.
there's no more fantasy or innovations, because it has all been experimented.
that's the way music goes nowadays, just commercial stuff, not as thick and deep as in the past.

Every now and then we get a post in the music forum that goes beyond 'list your favorite ____', or 'what are you listening to?'. Those posts usually have something to do with how music was better in the past than it is now.

But the truth is that if you actually bothered to look for it, you would find that music is actually infinitely better now than it was, with heaps of talented musicians releasing brilliant, exciting albums every year.

Pop music in the sixties was crap too... just a different kind of crap.

All I'll say is that today music sucks and I really don't hear any mainstream stuff cuz it sounds like shit... I stick to the oldies most of the time.

There was a lot of crap music in the past too. There might be more now, but there's more music overall now.

say...2/5 songs where bad in the past, now 40/100 are bad today.
also, almost all of them are what end up on the radio or tv.

And you shouldn't talk about music being better in the past...we still have that good, old music, with new stuff coming out every day. Now we just have to...filter through a lot more than before.

You're trying to make a point by posting silly lyrics? I have never been big on lyrics anyway.
Honestly dude, Hip-Hop, rap, whatever, it's not my cup of tea, but those that like it might get something out of it you and I don't appreciate.
( I take it back... I have heard some really cool Hip-hop...from South America, sung in Portuguese! I could'nt really care less what they are rappin' about... its all about syllables and rhythm.

Music is still evoluting. And since we find a lot of groups in our society, we find a lot of music kinds and styles. We have the shallow part of the society, who only cares about pops and hits and fashion. Nowadays, this part is 3/4 of our population. And the other 1/4 interesting part of the population, knows what music is all about. and this doesn't concern only music, but everything. Education, culture in general, humanity, movies, all kinds of arts, everything.
So the bad thing happening is that the first part of the society is becoming bigger and bigger, because of the media, and things like MTV and silly programs that cause brainwashing to adults, and to kids, causing a formation of a "DUMB" population.
That's why, the number one song on the world charts, was a good song back when the second part of the population was dominating, and is now a silly disgusting song now that the first part of the population is dominating.
Count 20 years from now, the new "dumb" generations of today will grow up, and become the old generation of then, and all the new generations after them will be also dumb.
We're going to a great end guys:) I'm glad I'll be dead by then.
